Key Storylines
- Patriots’ Offensive Surge: Quarterback Drake Maye has been impressive of late. He threw for 273 yards and led a last-minute drive to secure a 23-20 win over the Buffalo Bills in Week 5. Wide receiver Stefon Diggs caught 10 passes for 146 yards, showcasing his elite skills and getting a measure of revenge against his former team. That was a huge upset and the Patriots will look to build on it here.
- Saints’ Defensive Turnaround: After a slow start, the Saints’ defense stepped up in their 26-14 victory over the New York Giants. They recorded five consecutive takeaways and limited the Giants to 332 total yards in Jaxson Dart’s first career road start for New York.
Quarterback Play
Drake Maye has shown poise and accuracy, leading the Patriots’ offense efficiently. He has seven touchdown passes to two interceptions and will try to build on what he built with Diggs in Buffalo in their last game. New Orleans’ Spencer Rattler has had an up-and-down start to his NFL career. He has six touchdown passes and just one pick this season, but needs to be more explosive down the field for the Saints’ offense to improve.

Final Thoughts
I don’t think that there is a good case for betting on the Patriots to cover the spread this week. The Patriots shocked the Bills in their last game, which will make them a popular bet against a struggling Saints squad. But I want no part of backing New England in their second straight road game after an emotional win in a rivalry game. I’ll take the points with the Saints at home here, while acknowledging it could age like a glass of milk left out in the sun.
