This year, it will be Willie Fritz to take over as the head coach of the Cougars, which the team hopes will be the start of a more positive era of Houston football.
If Houston is going to have a better season than it did in 2023, the health of Donovan Smith will be a huge factor. Smith is back as the starting quarterback for the Cougars but he did have shoulder surgery this past offseason. How he looks early in this game could be very telling as he looks to help his team become a more relevant force in the Big 12.
