Key Storylines
Edmonton has been trending upward. Since Cody Fajardo took over at quarterback, the Elks have competed well against most opponents except perhaps the top tier of the league. Their recent 31-19 win over Calgary featured a dominant rushing display from Justin Rankin. Rankin had 204 yards on 16 carries and that performance highlighted where they may find success against Toronto. The Argonauts have lethal passing numbers but their run defense has been among the worst in the CFL.
Toronto should be reasonably rested after a bye week. Their last game was a 35-33 win over Hamilton on Labour Day. That game saw Nick Arbuckle throw for 352 yards and three touchdowns. Toronto’s defence has given up a lot of points, which raises questions about whether they can slow down Edmonton’s ground game and stay disciplined in the secondary.
Quarterback Play
- Edmonton – Cody Fajardo: He has stabilised the offence with his experience and leadership. His passing has been serviceable and he now has better support from the run game. The rise of Rankin in the backfield gives Fajardo more options and reduces pressure in obvious passing situations.
- Toronto – Nick Arbuckle: He leads the CFL in passing yards and ranks second in touchdowns, though he is also among the top interception throwers in the CFL. It will be interesting to see if he continues to play with Chad Kelly on the active roster.
Betting Trends & H2H
- Toronto is 4-8 straight up this season and 5-7 against the spread on the year.
- Edmonton is 5-7 straight up and 7-5 against the spread in 2025.

Final Thoughts
The quarterback situation for the Argonauts in this game is going to be interesting to monitor. Rust could be a factor if Chad Kelly plays and turnovers could be a problem if Arbuckle remains the Argos’ starter. In any case, I think the over will hit in this matchup from Toronto. The explosive offense and vulnerable defense of Toronto should lead to another high-scoring matchup and possibly the most exciting game of the week in the CFL.
