The 112th Grey Cup is set to take place on Sunday. The Saskatchewan Roughriders and Montreal Alouettes will face off in this year's CFL championship game. These two teams play very different styles. Saskatchewan has a suffocating defense, while Montreal is riding a late-season surge of momentum with their quarterback healthy again. Before kickoff from Winnipeg, continue reading to get my Roughriders vs Alouettes prediction in the Grey Cup.
Saskatchewan is aiming to break a Grey Cup drought, with their last title coming in 2013. Montreal is trying to capture its second championship in three years. This is only the third Grey Cup meeting between these clubs, as they previously met in the 2009 and 2010 Grey Cups.
Montreal’s path to this game has been defined by a tough defense and a quarterback who hasn’t lost since he became starter. Saskatchewan has leaned on a dominant defense throughout this season. Both of these teams held their opponents to 21 or fewer points in the division finals and they will try to shut down their opposition with the championship on the line here.
Davis Alexander (Montreal): Since returning from injury, Alexander has gone 13–0 as a starter with 11 wins in the regular season and 2 in the postseason. He’s known for being mobile, accurate, and composed, but he aggravated a hamstring injury in the Eastern Final. Saskatchewan’s defensive front could make that a big factor.
Trevor Harris (Saskatchewan): Harris completed 74% of his passes in the regular season, throwing for 4,549 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He manages the game well and allows his defense to dictate things, which he will try to do on this championship stage.
I'm going to take the Saskatchewan Roughriders to win and cover the spread in the 112th Grey Cup. The Riders' defense should shut down Davis Alexander and the Alouettes, while the Riders' running game will help them to wear down the Montreal defense. Green will be the colour, as the Riders lift the Grey Cup on Sunday night in Winnipeg.
