- Connecticut is 3-0 to start the season, but their wins have come against the winless Fever and Mystics. Minnesota should be a tougher opponent for them.
- Napheesa Collier is averaging 24.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game to start the year and she should be a handful for the defense of the Sun.
Two of the three undefeated teams remaining in the WNBA will face off on Thursday night when the Minnesota Lynx visit the Connecticut Sun. The winner of this game will increase their cushion over the Las Vegas Aces in the standings, who dropped a game earlier in the week, making this a significant early-season matchup. Here, you will get our WNBA betting picks for Lynx vs Sun in what could be the game of the night in the WNBA.
This game will be played at 7:00 PM ET at Mohegan Sun Arena on Thursday, May 23, 2024.
Minnesota Lynx
The Minnesota Lynx drew a tough season-opening schedule, as they had to play two straight games against a Seattle Storm team that added Nneka Ogwumike and Skylar Diggins-Smith in the offseason. But the Lynx passed those tests with flying colors, winning both legs of a home-and-home against Seattle to start the season with a 2-0 record. Now, they face an even bigger test against a Sun team that finished last season in the top-three in the WNBA standings.
For the Lynx to win this game, they will need Napheesa Collier to continue to play at the level she did in the first two games of the season. Collier is shooting 46.3% from the field through two games, but is an impressive 40% from three-point range in those contests. If she can continue to stretch the floor and shoot efficiently, that can get the defense of the Sun out of sync, which is a rarity for them.
Connecticut Sun
The Connecticut Sun are also unbeaten to start the season, winning each of their first three games to open the 2024 campaign. But strength of schedule has been lacking for the Sun to start the year, as all three of their games have come against either the Indiana Fever or Washington Mystics, who are a combined 0-9 to start the year. Here, it will be interesting to see if the Sun can get a win against a team that has actually proven it can win a basketball game.
Through three games, the defense of Connecticut has been excellent, ranking second in the league in points allowed. They will need to be at their best on defense in this game, though, as they are facing the best offense they have seen so far this year. Stephanie White’s team has proven themselves more than capable of doing just that in recent seasons, though.
