Key Storylines
- Dallas Wings: The Wings have struggled this season with a 9-31 record and a 4-15 mark on the road. They barely have enough healthy players to field a team at this point and have had to go with an extreme hardship signing to meet the league minimum of eight players. The Wings have been eliminated from playoff contention and have nothing left to play for.
- Minnesota Lynx: The Lynx lead the league with a 31-8 record and have clinched the top seed in the playoffs. They recently acquired DiJonai Carrington from the Wings and Carrington will look to have a good game against her former team. It will be interesting to see if the Lynx rest any players knowing that they have home-court advantage throughout the WNBA playoffs.
Head-to-Head & Betting Trends
- Past Meetings: The Lynx have won the last three matchups against the Wings this season. Two of those three wins have come by double-digits.
- ATS Records: Minnesota is 23-15-1 against the spread this season. Dallas is 18-22 ATS on the year.
- Over/Under Records: The Lynx have gone 20-17-2 in the over/under market so far this year. Dallas has an over/under record of 22-18.
Advanced Metrics & Trends
- Offensive/Defensive Metrics: Minnesota ranks first in the league in offensive rating and defensive rating this year. The Wings are 10th in offensive rating and 12th out of 13 teams in defensive rating.
- Pace of Play: Minnesota plays at a slower pace than the Wings. Minnesota is 11th in the WNBA in pace and the Wings have the second-fastest pace in the league.
- Key Mismatches: If she plays, I have a hard time imagining the Wings will be able to guard Napheesa Collier.
Wings vs Lynx Model Projection
- Score Projection: Dallas Wings 75 – Minnesota Lynx 90
- Win Probability: Dallas 7%, Minnesota 93%
Final Thoughts
The Dallas Wings have all but given up this season and injuries have destroyed their roster. At the same time, I’m not convinced that we won’t see some rest for key players on the Lynx late in the regular season. Instead of getting involved with the point spread, I think the under is the best way to go in this matchup from Minneapolis.
