The Seattle Seahawks and Pittsburgh Steelers are scheduled to play in Week 2 of the NFL season. Both teams played their first games with new starting quarterbacks in Week 1 and had different results. Pittsburgh hopes to get off to a 2-0 start with a win here and the Seahawks are searching for their first win of the season. Here, I give you my breakdown of this matchup, including my Seahawks vs Steelers prediction.

Key Storylines
- This is Aaron Rodgers’ first home start for Pittsburgh. Rodgers led the Steelers to a Week 1 win against the New York Jets and he will look for a second straight win to start his tenure in Pittsburgh here.
- The Seattle Seahawks dropped their season opener at home against the San Francisco 49ers. Sam Darnold did not have a successful debut for Seattle and he will need to be better through the air if the Seahawks are going to avoid an 0-2 start.
- This is a “body clock” game for the Seahawks. Teams are said to struggle when traveling from the West Coast to play a 1:00 p.m. Eastern game. But that is mostly anecdotal and shouldn’t be overvalued when handicapping the game.
- The Steelers’ defense struggled against their former quarterback Justin Fields and the Jets’ offense. But Jalen Ramsey’s big pass breakup in the final minute helped the Steelers hang onto their late lead.
- Cooper Kupp had just two catches for 15 yards in his Seahawks debut and will aim to be more productive in Week 2.
Quarterback Play
Aaron Rodgers completed 22 of his 30 pass attempts in Week 1 against his former team. He threw for 244 yards and four touchdown passes. That game carried some extra emotional weight for Rodgers given how acrimonious his exit from New York was. Rodgers will look for a similar performance without the same chip on his shoulder this week.
Sam Darnold had just 150 passing yards and no passing touchdowns in Seattle’s Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The one bright spot for Darnold was his connection with wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. JSN had 124 receiving yards but Darnold will need to find his other receivers with more regularity to avoid a second straight loss.

Final Thoughts
I really like the idea of backing the Pittsburgh Steelers at home in Week 2. I don’t expect another four-touchdown performance from Rodgers. But TJ Watt and the Steelers’ defense should put pressure on Darnold and that will mean some passes from Darnold that Jalen Ramsey and the Pittsburgh secondary can intercept. Pittsburgh should win and cover the spread to get the Aaron Rodgers era off to a 2-0 start.
