Key Storylines
- The Cowboys lost a four-point game to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1. They were very respectable on the road against the defending champions to open the season. But moral victories won’t keep them in the hunt for the playoffs.
- The Giants were beaten in Week 1 by the Washington Commanders. New York’s offense was dismal and managed just six points behind new starting quarterback Russell Wilson. This is Wilson’s first home start as a Giant and will need to put up more points for his team to get back to .500.
- Dallas had to deal with a true dual-threat quarterback in Jalen Hurts last week. They were burned on both designed and improvised quarterback runs against the Eagles. Wilson’s mobility is less of a threat and that could help the Cowboys’ defense get more stops.
- The lookahead line for this game was at Cowboys -3 but is up to Cowboys -4.5 at the time of this writing.
Quarterback Play
Dak Prescott looked physically ready in the opener for the Cowboys. He went 21-of-34 for 188 yards with no turnovers in a difficult environment. His efficiency was decent and the Cowboys’ play-calling under Brian Schottenheimer showed more motion and play-action. The Cowboys have extra time to prepare for that game and it could help Prescott and the Dallas offense get a leg up on the Giants defense.
Russell Wilson lost in his Giants debut on the road in Week 1 and heads to Arlington in Week 2. The 36-year-old arrives off a 2024 season in Pittsburgh that included 16 touchdowns against five interceptions across 11 starts. He completed just 17 of his 37 pass attempts for 168 yards. The Giants failed to score a touchdown in Week 1 and Wilson needs to be better for that to change this week.
Betting Trends & H2H
- The Giants failed to cover the spread in their season opener.
- Dallas is 1-0 against the spread after covering against the Eagles.
- Both teams went under the total in their 2025 season openers.
- Head-to-head: Dallas has taken eight straight in this series and leads 75-47-2 all-time.
Giants vs Cowboys Model Projection
Score Projection: Giants 17 – Cowboys 23
Win Probability: Giants 37%, Cowboys 63%
Final Thoughts
The New York Giants looked inept offensively despite making a much-needed change at quarterback. Russell Wilson couldn’t make the Giants look any better up front and without adequate protection, I think Wilson is going to struggle again this week. I recommend laying the points with the Cowboys with the expectation that this line will be closer to Cowboys -6 by kickoff.
