Key Storylines
- The Colts are off to a 3-0 start. Daniel Jones has thrown for over 220 yards in each game so far without turning the ball over. Their offense has been balanced with Jonathan Taylor leading their rushing attack. But the Colts have played three struggling teams to begin their season. This will be their biggest test to date.
- The Rams were ahead by 19 points against the Eagles but lost late, having two field goals blocked in the fourth quarter. Matthew Stafford has looked competent, and their receiving corps is still dangerous post-Cooper Kupp. But their defense has allowed big plays and big comebacks and that has to be remedied for the Rams to reach their full potential.
- This is the second straight road game for the Colts after they won in Tennessee last time out. The travel demands for the Colts could impact their level of play this week.
Quarterback Play
Daniel Jones has been sharp to open the season. In Week 3 against Tennessee, he completed 18 of 25 passes for 228 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. He has avoided costly mistakes and has received solid support from his weapons, especially Jonathan Taylor.
Matthew Stafford of the Rams has shown flashes, with five touchdown passes and two interceptions so far this year. But question marks remain about whether the Rams can protect leads late in games. I’m not sure that a loss like that on the road against the defending champions is damning in any way, but we’ll learn a lot about the Rams based on how they respond here.
Betting Trends & H2H
- The Rams are 2-1 against the spread. They failed to cover against the Eagles due to a blocked field goal being returned for a touchdown by the Eagles as time expired.
- The Colts are 3-0 against the spread so far this season.
- Both of these teams are 2-1 to the over early in the year.
Colts vs Rams Model Projection
Score Projection: Colts 20 – Rams 27
Win Probability: Colts 35 %, Rams 65 %
Final Thoughts
The Rams probably should be 3-0 right now and I think we’d be looking at them a lot differently if the Eagles didn’t block two field goals against them in Week 3. I expect the Rams to bounce back nicely from that heartbreaking loss and for the Rams to cover the spread here against a Colts team that hasn’t logged an impressive win yet.
