The Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks will play in Atlanta on Friday. This is an NBA Cup group stage game and an important one at that. Both of these teams got wins in their first cup games of the season last week. A win here would put them a step closer to the knockout rounds. Here, I break down this NBA Cup contest from Atlanta and give you my Raptors vs Hawks prediction.
Our Raptors vs Hawks Pick
- Pick: Toronto Raptors Moneyline
- Confidence: ★★★☆☆
Game Snapshot
- Matchup: Toronto Raptors @ Atlanta Hawks

Key Storylines
The Hawks will be going without star guard Trae Young. He is sidelined with an MCL sprain and expected to miss at least four weeks. That absence removes the Hawks’ leading scorer and assist producer. That makes it harder for everyone on their team to score, though Atlanta has won three of its last four games in spite of that.
The Raptors enter this game on a three-game winning streak and look sharper on offense. They most recently defeated the Milwaukee Bucks 128-100 and beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in Cleveland during this streak as well. Brandon Ingram is averaging 21.1 points per game to lead the Raps, but they have enjoyed contributions from several sources early on.
Both of these teams are 4-4 to start the season and 1-0 in East Group A in the NBA Cup. This game is important for NBA Cup purposes. But it is also important from a momentum standpoint for both teams. A win will put the team that gets it above .500 for the year and that is huge psychologically compared to having to fight your way back to .500 as the season goes on.

Final Thoughts
The Hawks have done a fine job so far with Trae Young out of action. But I think that they will run into some problems against this Raptors team. Toronto is well-balanced and it’s hard to figure out where they are going to attack you from. I think that will do them well against this Hawks group that only has one or two very good individual defenders. I’ll take the Raps as a slight underdog to get the win here.
