The Brooklyn Nets will host the Atlanta Hawks at Barclays Center on Wednesday night in the NBA. The early portion of the 2025-26 season hasn’t gone smoothly for either of these teams. But one of them has to win when they meet in this matchup. Here, I take a closer look at everything you need to know about these teams so you can make an informed Hawks vs Nets prediction.

Key Storylines
- The Hawks (1-3) have suffered three losses in their first four games. They most recently fell 128-123 to the Chicago Bulls on the road despite a big night from Trae Young (21 points, 17 assists) and Kristaps Porziņģis (27 points on 11-17 shooting). Their defense has been porous, with opponents shooting over 50% from the field against Atlanta.
- The Nets are 0-4 and still looking for their first win. They are giving up an eye-popping 130.5 points per game through four contests. Their defensive efficiency is currently at the bottom of the league as they attempt to build an identity with their young core under head coach Jordi Fernández.
- This is just the second home game of the season for Brooklyn. They stayed within seven points of the Cleveland Cavaliers in their home opener on October 24. They managed to do that despite giving up 131 points in that game. Brooklyn will attempt to be competitive again in this game while being better on the defensive end of the floor.
- Injuries: Atlanta lists Jalen Johnson and rookie Zaccharie Risacher as game-time decisions for this contest. Brooklyn has forward Haywood Highsmith out (knee) and Ziaire Williams questionable (back).

Final Thoughts
These teams are both playing basketball that can best be described as consistently inconsistent early in the season. Atlanta should be able to get back into the win column on the road here, as the Nets do look like one of the worst teams in the NBA this year. But I am going to take the points with the Nets, as the Hawks have proven that they are not built to cover point spreads as a favorite early in the year.
