Our YellaWood 500 Pick
- Pick: Joey Logano to win
- Confidence: ★★★☆☆
YellaWood 500 Preview
Every playoff driver who hasn’t locked in their Phoenix berth is desperate for a clean race and a win this week. But at Talladega, the notion of “clean” racing is relative. There is typically chaos at Tallaedga, including costly wrecks, which could shake up the Championship 4 picture significantly. The seven remaining drivers trying to fit into the last three spots will need to avoid that chaos if they want to win here and advance.
In recent weeks, we’ve also seen how motivation to advance affects the aggression of playoff drivers. Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney are both under pressure to win here, as they are below the cut line. Penske has a strong history at superspeedways and that could help them to get into the Championship 4. William Byron is also one of the favorites and is on the outside looking in going into this race. Austin Cindric already won the spring Talladega race and could play spoiler.

The betting odds for this race clearly show that chaos is expected in Talladega on Sunday. There is usually a clear favorite to win at most tracks. But that is rarely the case at Talladega and Daytona, thanks to the potential for tight packs of drivers and the potential for wrecks. Bettors should approach this race with caution because of that potential volatility.
YellaWood 500 Prediction
Joey Logano is my best bet to win the 2025 YellaWood 500. He has enjoyed strong past performances at superspeedways and has plenty of motivation given where he stands in the playoff standings. He offers a strong risk-reward ratio going into this race at +1000. If things break for him in the closing laps, he has a real chance to lock up a Championship 4 berth with a victory.
Expect a finish where position and timing in the draft will matter more than pure pace. But as long as he can avoid the big wreck, Logano could very well come away with the checkered flag. For those looking elsewhere, William Byron is also an intriguing option given that he is in a similar position to Logano in the playoff standings.
