2025 Azerbaijan Grand Prix Preview
The Baku City Circuit is notorious for its high-speed straights, tight castle-section corners, and frequent incidents. Last year, Piastri won here after overtaking Charles Leclerc in the final stages. Leclerc has taken the pole in four straight years here, but has yet to convert that into a race win.
In 2025, McLaren’s consistency has been remarkable. Piastri has scored points in every race and sprint this season and McLaren has collected seven one-two finishes. Red Bull, after Verstappen’s win at Monza, will be aiming to disrupt that dominance. Ferrari and Mercedes both appear to be chasing pace rather than leading it so far this year.
Weather may play a role. Conditions are expected to be warm earlier in the weekend, cooling into race day. A chance of light rain exists, which could cause chaos and shake up the expected order. Safety cars are also common at Baku because of the narrow sections and wall-to-wall barriers.
Azerbaijan GP Track Info

- The layout features a very long straight allowing top speeds, followed by tight sections through the old town where track width drops to about 7.8 meters.

Azerbaijan GP Prediction
Given all available data, the strongest pick is Oscar Piastri for the win. His defending champion status at Baku, combined with McLaren’s form, gives him a clear edge. Norris is likely to be a strong challenger to Piastri but should fall short against his McLaren teammate. Verstappen could challenge if Red Bull nails its setup and picks up clean track at critical moments. They could be especially dangerous if safety car phases work in their favor. Leclerc is likely to qualify well but converting pole or front-row starts to wins has proven difficult for him here.
I’ll go with Piastri to get the win in this race and to move closer to claiming the top spot in the driver’s standings. Norris should take a podium spot behind his McLaren teammate and I’ll go with Leclerc to round out the podium after another strong qualifying session. Verstappen will fall short of the top-three in Sunday’s race.
