Key Storylines
Pitching matchup
Seattle turns to Logan Gilbert for Game 3, giving him his first postseason start. Gilbert posted a 6–6 record in the regular season with a 3.44 ERA. While he lacks deep playoff experience, his form and ability to miss bats make him a sensible choice to take the mound in a high-leverage situation here.
Detroit will start Jack Flaherty, who had an 8–15 mark and 4.64 ERA in the regular season. But Flaherty performed very well in his first start of this postseason for the Tigers. He one run in 4.2 innings of work in Detroit’s Game 3 win over the Cleveland Guardians to advance to the ALDS. Another strong performance from Flaherty would be a sight for sore eyes for Detroit.
Key Players
Julio Rodríguez continues to be a spark plug for Seattle in the postseason. In Game 2, he delivered the go-ahead RBI double to put Seattle ahead in the eighth. Jorge Polanco also made his mark with two solo homers off Tarik Skubal in that same game.
Riley Greene remains a focal point on Detroit’s side. He is 5-12 in his career vs Gilbert and should be heavily involved in Detroit’s offensive strategy. Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson delivered a clutch two-run double in Game 2 and he will also be a key to Detroit’s success in this important game.
Recent team streaks
The Mariners come into this game riding the high of their Game 2 win, having snapped a home postseason drought with their first home postseason win since 2001. That win snapped a four-game losing streak for Seattle. Detroit is 3-2 in the postseason so far. They had a two-game winning streak snapped with their loss to the Mariners in Game 2.

Final Thoughts
My best bet for this pivotal Game 3 is for the Detroit Tigers to get a win at home to go up 2-1 on the Seattle Mariners. The Tigers got a strong start from Flaherty in his last game and we should see something similar from him here. Expect Flaherty to neutralize the power bats of the Mariners and for Detroit to take a 2-1 lead in this series.
