Key Storylines
One of the most compelling storylines heading into this game is UTSA’s passing offense, which has underperformed relative to expectations so far this year. QB Owen McCown has averaged only about 189 passing yards per game, a notable drop from his 2024 performance. Injuries to key receivers and adjustments toward shorter passes have hampered the vertical element of the Roadrunners’ attack.
Temple’s offense has had its own struggles, ranking 88th in total yardage per game. Their passing game is particularly underwhelming, ranking 107th in passing yards per game. But their rushing attack is more respectable, ranking 48th in the country. Temple has one of the better pass defenses in the FBS, allowing around 171.5 passing yards per game, which is 29th best in the country.
UTSA leans heavily on RB Robert Henry Jr., who has 624 rushing yards and seven touchdowns in four games. Temple’s run defense is has given up roughly 5.9 yards per rushing attempt, meaning a clear opportunity for UTSA to lean into their ground game.
Head coach Jeff Traylor has had success building UTSA into a strong program in recent seasons. Temple’s head coach KC Keeler is still stabilizing his program, but their 2-2 start has been encouraging. Coaching could decide this contest along with the execution on the field.

Final Thoughts
This should be a tight game that could go either way here. But my main expectation for this game is not for one side or the other to win it. Instead, I will take the over, as we should see plenty of offense from both teams. UTSA’s running game should be productive, while this could be a chance for their passing game to get going as well. Temple should do their part on offense as well, in what should be an entertaining game in the AAC.
