Eric Bieniemy Leads UCLA Offense Into 2024 Season
For many years, it was said that Eric Bieniemy was one of the best offensive coordinators in the NFL, with many questioning why he never became an NFL head coach. That made it very surprising when Bieniemy left the NFL to become the offensive coordinator for the UCLA Bruins this offseason. In this game, Bieniemy will make his debut with UCLA as he looks to built another high-powered offense, only this time in the collegiate ranks.
Bieniemy's quarterback to start this season will be Ethan Garbers. Garbers completed 67.1% of his 146 pass attempts last season, averaging 7.8 yards per attempt with 11 touchdown passes and three interceptions. Expectations will be much higher this year for Garbers, as he looks to lead UCLA to a better year than their 8-5 season in 2023.
Trouble In Paradise Brewing For Hawaii?
Hawaii did get a win in Week 0 to start their 2024 college football season. But that win was a bit of a disappointing one, as they only managed to beat Delaware State by 21 points despite being favored by around 40. Here, Hawaii will look to move to 2-0 at home to start the season, though they are two-touchdown underdogs against UCLA in this matchup.
Weather will not be as much of a concern in this game as it was in Week 0 against Delaware State for the Rainbow Warriors. That weather last week caused Hawaii quarterback Brayden Schager to have a lackluster game against their FCS opponents. Against a better defense this time around, Schager could still run into some problems even if the weather is pleasant in paradise.
UCLA vs Hawaii Best Bet
Our best bet for UCLA vs Hawaii is the over at 54.5 points. UCLA should come out firing under Bieniemy, while Hawaii should at least be able to move the ball more consistently now that weather isn't likely to be as big a factor as it was for them in Week 0. Look for these teams to combine for at least 55 points in what should be an entertaining game out West.
