San Jose State vs Texas Odds

Key Storylines
- Arch Manning’s debut as Texas’ full-time starter brought mixed reviews. He threw for 170 yards, one touchdown, and one interception against Ohio State. His mechanics were questionable at times and he will be expected to look a lot better against an inferior opponent here.
- San Jose State opened its season with a 16-14 loss to Central Michigan. They wasted a 189-yard game from wide receiver Danny Scudero by failing to convert on scoring chances late in that game. Things are not expected to go better for them this week.
- Texas’ defense held Ohio State to just 14 points and that positive should not be overshadowed by the final result of that game.
Quarterback Play
Arch Manning is under intense scrutiny after his season debut. He showed flashes of athleticism and accuracy but still needs to clean up his technique and decision-making. Texas will likely open up the playbook more against San Jose State to allow Manning to get comfortable against a less imposing defense.
Walker Eget is the quarterback of the Spartans and he had over 300 passing yards against Central Michigan last week. His completion percentage was just under 56% and he will need to find a way to get that percentage up for SJSU to have any chance in this Saturday afternoon contest.
Betting Trends & H2H
- Both teams are 0-1 against the spread so far this season.
- Both teams went under the total in their first games of the season.
- These teams have played once all-time and Texas won that game 56-0 back in 2017.

Final Thoughts
Texas’ offense should look a lot better this week than it did against Ohio State a week ago. Arch Manning’s mechanics will be a lot less of a concern now that he isn’t playing the defending national champions. Meanwhile, I expect the Texas defense to shut down the Spartans like they largely did against the Buckeyes in Week 1. I’ll lay the points with the Longhorns in this contest as they should bounce back nicely from losing their opener.
