Key Storylines
Indiana enters this season after a historic 11-2 season in 2024. They went 8-1 in the Big Ten and secured their first CFP appearance in program history. This offseason saw some roster turnover for the Hoosiers. QB Kurtis Rourke and other key offensive contributors departed and it will be up to Curt Cignetti’s team to overcome those losses.
Old Dominion returns linebacker Jason Henderson to lead a defense expected to be stronger this year. The Monarchs return plenty of starters and appear poised to improve on last year’s 5-7 season. The questions for the Monarchs will come on offense as they don’t have anyone as talented as Henderson on that side of the ball entering the year.
Quarterback Play
Old Dominion will likely look to sophomore Colton Joseph to start the season. Joseph threw for 1,627 yards and 11 touchdowns last season and will have the chance to prove himself as a full-season starter starting here.
Indiana’s quarterback is going to be Fernando Mendoza to start this season. Mendoza threw 30 touchdown passes over two seasons at Cal. Early draft projections have Mendoza as a contender to be the top quarterback chosen and he will look to start his year with a big game in this contest.

This is the first-ever meeting between Old Dominion and Indiana in the history of these programs. This is the first time that the Monarchs have ever faced a Big Ten program and it will be a significant test for them.

Indiana is going to win at home to start their season and we should see Mendoza put forth a strong performance in his debut as the quarterback of the Hoosiers. But I am going to take the points with Old Dominion in this contest. They should be able to do just enough on defense to stay inside of the point spread in Bloomington on Saturday afternoon.
