Key Storylines
- Wisconsin enters this season trying to bounce back from a subpar 5-7 record in 2024. That season ended a long streak of winning seasons for the Badgers. They will look to get an early win to kick off this year.
- Miami (OH) made the MAC championship game and lost to Ohio last season. They were great in MAC competition but struggled to a 1-4 start and went 1-3 in the non-conference season.
- For Wisconsin, this is arguably one of their more winnable non-conference games amid a notoriously difficult 2025 schedule. They face Alabama in a couple of games and will need to win here to avoid a bad start to the year before conference play begins.
Quarterback Play
Miami (OH) will unveil Toledo/Baylor transfer Dequan Finn under center. He arrives with 7,377 career passing yards and 66 touchdowns over six previous seasons of college football. But he’ll be working with a rebuilt offensive line and new skill-position transfers in what should be an interesting situation to monitor. Wisconsin’s quarterback will be Maryland transfer Billy Edwards Jr. Edwards threw for over 2,800 yards for the Terrapins last season and will have the spotlight on him here.
Betting Trends & H2H
- Wisconsin was just 1-4 ATS in its last five games and 0-5 straight up in that span at the end of last season.
- The Badgers are 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine games at home.
- Miami (OH) is 6-3 ATS in its last nine games and 14-5 ATS in its last 19 road games.
- Wisconsin leads the all-time series 1-0 over Miami (OH) via a dominant 2015 victory.
Miami (OH) vs Wisconsin Model Projection

Win Probability: Miami (OH) 28%, Wisconsin 72%
Final Thoughts
I don’t doubt that Wisconsin will win this season opener on their home field today. But I am skeptical about their ability to cover the spread as such a heavy favorite. The Badgers are adjusting to a new quarterback situation and I’m not sure that Billy Edwards Jr. is the best quarterback in this matchup. Finn and the Redhawks should keep this game within a couple of scores to cover the spread on the road.
