Key Storylines
The Stampeders are in solid form going into the Labour Day Classic. They are 7-3 this season and earned a dominant 32-15 victory over Saskatchewan last week. They’ve controlled this rivalry historically, winning 10 of the last 12 Labour Day contests. But the Stamps can’t get too confident going into this game as the Elks will give them everything they have in this rivalry game.
Edmonton’s turnaround under QB Cody Fajardo has been impressive. He has helped spark a three-game winning streak and has helped the Elks move closer to playoff contention. The decision to bengh Tre Ford to go with Fajardo has paid off so far and the Elks will hope that continues with a strong performance against the red-hot Stampeders.
Quarterback Play
Cody Fajardo has been the main catalyst for Edmonton’s recent surge. He completed 22 of 28 pass attempts for 270 yards and a touchdown in Edmonton’s latest win over Ottawa. He’s averaging 227 passing yards per game this season and will need to have a big game here to keep Edmonton’s winning streak alive.
Calgary’s Vernon Adams Jr. has dealt with some injury issues early in the 2025 season. But he still ranks in the top five in the CFL in both passing yards and passing touchdowns. Adams will be key to the success of the Stamps in this contest at home.

Final Thoughts
Both of these teams are playing well offensively going into the Labour Day Classic. Calgary was truly impressive in carving up the Roughriders’ defense last week and the Elks have looked much better with Fajardo at quarterback. I think the over is the best bet in this game as both teams should continue to make life difficult on opposing defenses in this contest.
