- The Mercury have been very competitive against the Aces this season, splitting a pair of games in Las Vegas this year.
- Brittney Griner was not available for either of those games in Las Vegas and her presence in this game should only help Phoenix compete with the defending champs.
The Phoenix Mercury and Las Vegas Aces are both .500 teams so far this season, with one of those records being much more surprising than the other. Phoenix and Vegas will do battle for the third time already this season on Thursday night, with the winner set to move above the .500 mark and the loser set to drop below it. Keep reading for our WNBA betting picks for Aces vs Mercury from Phoenix.
This game will be played at 10:00 PM ET at Footprint Center on Thursday, June 13, 2024.
Las Vegas Aces
The Las Vegas Aces are just 5-5 through the first quarter of their season. While that is well beneath the standard they have set for themselves over the last couple of years, it is also a product of injuries impacting their rotation. That issue could be a thing of the past starting tonight, though, as they could have one of their key players back for this Western Conference matchup.
Chelsea Gray is questionable to make her season debut in tonight’s Aces vs Mercury matchup. Gray was injured in the WNBA Finals against the New York Liberty last season. If she does play, her minutes will likely be limited as she returns to game action. But some Chelsea Gray would be better than no Chelsea Gray for the Aces and her status going into this game will be something bettors should monitor.
Phoenix Mercury
The Phoenix Mercury are also a .500 team so far this year, posting a record of 6-6 heading into tonight’s game. As has become customary for the Mercury, they have been excellent at home and terrible on the road this year, going 4-1 on their home floor but just 2-5 away from it. Phoenix will look to get another home win here to help their chances of staying in the top-five in the standings while dealing a crucial blow to the Aces.
Defending A’ja Wilson more effectively will be a key for the Mercury if they want to win this game at home. Wilson has averaged 25.5 points per game against the Mercury in two meetings this season so far. But Brittney Griner was not on the floor in either of those previous matchups. Griner will be on the floor tonight, which could make the Mercury more effective in stopping one of the favorites to win this year’s WNBA MVP award.
