Odds from Sportzino
Ukraine’s Mahuchikh is the clear favorite to win the gold medal in the Olympic women’s high jump and understandably so with the way she has performed over the last couple of years. She has won multiple European championships in the high jump as well as the 2023 World Championships in Budapest. Australia’s Nicola Olyslagers is the only other jumper inside of +1000 to win gold here, having finished first in the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow earlier this year.
Olympic Women’s High Jump Major Storylines
The number-one storyline going into the women’s high jump finals at the Paris Olympics is just how dominant Mahuchikh has been in this event. Olyslagers is the clear number-two on the list of favorites in this event, who has only cleared two meters in an international meet just once, when she won silver in the Tokyo Olympics. Meanwhile, Mahuchikh has accomplished that feat regularly and a very disappointing performance from the Ukranian for her to win anything but gold here.
Whether or not the world record will fall in the Olympic women’s high jump final is also a storyline to keep an eye on during these games. That record stands at 2.10 meters, set by Mahuchikh in early July in Paris. But we could see a new mark set here by her, or someone who upsets her in the quest for gold this weekend.
Olympic Women’s High Jump Medal Contenders
No jumper outside of Mahuchikh or Olyslagers is inside of +1000 to win the women’s high jump gold medal. But there are a couple of other jumpers who could come away with a spot on the podium, even if their medal is not gold. Eleanor Patterson of Australia will look to take advantage of the absence of Angelina Topic to get onto the medal stand, after Topic fractured her ankle and was ruled out of this event. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Iryna Gerashchenko will look to join Mahuchikh on the medal stand from Ukraine.
Women’s High Jump Betting Prediction: Yaroslava Mahuchikh (-527)
While it is tempting to take someone at much longer odds to win the Olympic women’s high jump final, we will take the chalk and bet Yaroslava Mahuchikh to win gold in this event. She is fresh off of a world record performance in this same city within the past month. Look for her to potentially extend her own record mark here and to get the gold whether or not she breaks her own record.
