Odds from Sportzino
The odds-on favorite in the Olympic men’s hammer throw is Ethan Katzberg of Canada. Katzberg was the top qualifier ahead of the finals in this event and is coming off of a 2023 World Championships gold in Budapest. Outside of Katzberg, Poland’s Wojciech Nowicki is the only other thrower who enters this event inside of +1000 to win the gold, as the reigning Olympic gold medalist still has plenty to say about the outcome of this event.
Olympic Men’s Hammer Throw Major Storylines
The meteoric rise of Katzberg in the hammer throw is the biggest storyline going into the Olympic men’s hammer throw final. Katzberg is just 22 years old and was not a part of the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 as he was still relatively new to the sport. Now he is not only in the Olympics for this event but he has the highest expectations of anyone in the field.
Then there is the presence of Nowicki, who is on the other side of the experience spectrum in the hammer throw, entering this Olympic final at 35 years of age. The next Olympics will be when he is 39 years old, which means this is the last we could see of the Polish great at the games. But he is by no means washed up and could get gold here to put an exclamation point on his Olympic career.
Olympic Men’s Hammer Throw Medal Contenders
There are a few strong throwers who will be battling it out for a spot on the podium along with Katzberg and Nowicki. American Rudy Winkler was excellent in qualifying in Paris and the New Yorker will hope to have a medal around his neck when all is said and done this week. Also in firm medal contention in the hammer throw are Mykhaylo Kokhan of Ukraine and Pawel Fajdek of Poland, who has five world championships in his incredible career.
Men’s Hammer Throw Betting Prediction: Ethan Katzberg (-400)
Ethan Katzberg of Canada is our top pick to come away with the gold medal in the hammer throw at the Paris Olympics. He is currently throwing better than anyone in the field and we should see him rewarded for what has been a great couple of years rising to the top of this sport, where he should stay for the foreseeable future.
