Key Storylines
Recent form
The Anaheim Ducks have split their first four games of this season. They are 2-2-0 and their most recent outing was a 4-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. Anaheim hasn’t been bad on the attack this year but they are giving up 4.00 goals per game. Chicago dropped its last game to the Vancouver Canucks in a shootout. The Blackhawks are 2-2-2 on the season and are tied for third place in the Central Division with six points.
Goaltending
Spencer Knight of the Blackhawks is the best goaltender in this matchup. He has a 2.22 GAA and a .924 save percentage. But he only has a 1-2-1 record to show for it and will try to help his team get a win in this contest. No Ducks goalie has a GAA under 3.00 and their netminders will need to step up if the Ducks are going to get a win on the road.
Key skaters
Chris Kreider has hit the ground running with four goals in his first few outings and is making an immediate impact for the Ducks. Leo Carlsson is leading Anaheim with six points (two goals, four assists) through their first four games. Chicago’s Frank Nazar and Teuvo Teräväinen both enter with six-point starts, anchoring an offense that is showing more consistency than they did a season ago.

Final Thoughts
Both of these teams have shown that they are improving from what we saw out of them a season ago. This should be a close game, but I give a slight edge to the Blackhawks to get the win. Bettors with a little more risk tolerance might want to back the Blackhawks to cover the puckline for a seventh straight time, but I’m happy to just play Chicago on the moneyline.
