Key Storylines
The Jets remain the lone winless team in the league at 0-7. They dropped their latest outing 13-6 to the Carolina Panthers. Their offense mustered only 220 total yards and starting quarterback Justin Fields was benched mid-game after completing just 6 of 12 pass attempts for 46 yards. Backup Tyrod Taylor replaced Fields, but threw two interceptions and failed to spark a comeback. The team has yet to name a clear starter heading into Week 8.
The Bengals are operating without their usual franchise quarterback as Joe Burrow deals with a long-term injury. Their defense has been porous, allowing over 30 points per game. But they did manage a bounce‐back win last week over the Pittsburgh Steelers behind newly acquired veteran Joe Flacco. The Bengals ended a four-game losing streak by winning that game and they will try to grab a second win in a row in this contest.
Quarterback Play
The quarterback situation for the Jets is something to monitor going into this game. Fields has struggled mightily, but Taylor wasn’t much better when he stepped in against Carolina. The Jets are in disarray at the most important position on the field.
Joe Flacco’s arrival has injected at least some semblance of stability into the Bengals’ offense. Flacco is no longer in his prime, but he is at least capable of getting something out of Ja’Marr Chase and the rest of the weapons the Bengals have at the skill positions.
Betting Trends
- The Jets are currently 3-4 against the spread this season despite being 0-7 straight up.
- The Bengals are also 3-4 against the spread, but they are 2-0 against the spread with Flacco at quarterback.
- The over has hit in four of the Jets’ seven games this season.
- The Bengals have gone 5-2 to the over through seven games.

Final Thoughts
Both of these teams have struggled this season. But the Bengals have more going for them heading into Week 8. The Bengals have found at least a respectable replacement for Burrow in Joe Flacco. I expect Cincinnati to move the ball through the air effectively again this week and for the Bengals to cover the spread en route to a second straight win.
