The Jacksonville Jaguars will head to Cincinnati on Sunday to face the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium. Both teams got wins in Week 1 of this season and will look to improve to 2-0 with a victory here. Key Storylines
- The expectation was that the Bengals’ passing game would have to carry them this season. But it was Cincinnati’s defense that led them to a 17-16 win over the Cleveland Browns. Burrow struggled in Week 1 and will try to bounce back in the Bengals’ home opener.
- Jacksonville had no problems with the Carolina Panthers in Week 1. The Jags won 26-10 at home to open their season and they will try to pass a much tougher test on the road against a team expected to contend for the AFC title.
- Trevor Lawrence had his own struggles in Jacksonville’s season-opening victory. Lawrence completed just 19 of his 31 pass attempts with one touchdown and one interception. If he wants to hang with Burrow here, he will need to be more efficient throwing the football.
- Al Golden replaced Lou Anarumo as Cincinnati’s defensive coordinator. He was tasked with fixing a unit that allowed 25.5 points per game in 2024. His defense gave up just 16 points in Week 1. So far so good from Golden’s defense.
Quarterback Play
Joe Burrow looked like an MVP in 2024 with 4,918 yards, 43 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. But he had just 113 passing yards and 14 completions against the Browns. Burrow will look to get Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins more involved in this contest.
Trevor Lawrence leads a new offense under Liam Coen that had way more success running the ball than passing the ball in Week 1. Lawrence will lean heavily on Travis Etienne Jr., who had 143 rushing yards in the Jags’ victory over Carolina. But Lawrence will have to execute in passing situations or it could be a long day for the Jaguars.

Final Thoughts
The Bengals should be able to win at home and will likely not need a missed extra point to do so against the Jaguars. But I am going to take the points with the Jaguars as a 4.5-point underdog. Jacksonville should be able to have some success through the air against a Bengals defense that I’m not convinced is good against the pass.
