Key Storylines
Denver enters this game with a fresh start in their first game of the season. Golden State is 1-0 after a 119-109 road win over the Los Angeles Lakers in their opener. The Nuggets added depth this offseason with acquisitions around star center Nikola Jokić. They brought in Cam Johnson, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Jonas Valanciunas to try and go further than the second round of the playoffs this year.
The Warriors are still anchored by Stephen Curry and the rest of their veteran core. They began the year strongly, with Jimmy Butler recording 31 points in the opener and Golden State getting a win despite Luka Doncic scoring 43 points against them. Golden State will be without Moses Moody and De’Anthony Melton for this contest as they look to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
Head-to-Head & Betting Trends
- Golden State covered the spread and went over the total in their first game of the season against the Lakers.
- The Nuggets won two of the three meetings between these teams last season. These teams went 1-1 against each other in the two games they played at Chase Center.

Final Thoughts
The Nuggets have made it clear that they do not want to waste another year of Nikola Jokic’s prime with a team that isn’t a serious contender. Adding several key depth pieces to join Jokic and Jamal Murray is a clear statement of intent for this organization. But I think they get off to a rocky start to this season against the Warriors on Thursday night.
Golden State has one of the best home-court advantages in the NBA and they also have a more consistent presence than Denver on the defensive end of the floor. Jokic will likely put up some impressive numbers against the smaller Warriors frontcourt. But the Dubs have the advantage just about everywhere else. I’ll take the Warriors to win and cover the spread as a slight favorite at home here, as they should improve to 2-0 early in the NBA season.
