- Aspinall has had three straight fights end in the first two minutes of the first round, including his loss to Blaydes in 2022.
- Blaydes did knock Aspinall out in 15 seconds in their previous meeting and Blaydes is always vulnerable to an early knockout as well.
The first of two title fights at UFC 304 will be for the interim heavyweight crown, as Tom Aspinall puts that title on the line against Curtis Blaydes. Aspinall enters this fight as a heavy favorite despite being knocked out by Blaydes in the past, setting up what should be an interesting fight between the two with gold on the line. Continue reading for our UFC betting picks for Tom Aspinall vs Curtis Blaydes for the interim heavyweight title from Manchester.
This fight will take place at Co-op Live in Manchester, England on Saturday, July 27, 2024.
Tom Aspinall
Tom Aspinall became the UFC interim heavyweight champion by earning a knockout win over Sergei Pavlovich in November. Aspinall has become known for action-packed fights that don’t last very long, as each of his last three bouts have gone under two minutes. Here, he will look to defend his interim heavyweight title regardless of how long it takes for him to get there.
As the Wu-Tang Clan once said, Aspinall is going to need to protect his neck if he is going to avoid dropping his interim title on Saturday night. Blaydes threw eight shots to the head of Aspinall in their 15-second fight in July of 2022. Blaydes isn’t known for having a great gas tank and will likely try for a quick finish again here, meaning that Aspinall needs to find a way to turn defense into offense, which starts with defending shots to the head from Blaydes.
Curtis Blaydes
Nobody is giving the challenger much of a chance in Saturday’s Tom Aspinall vs Curtis Blaydes matchup for the interim heavyweight title. But Curtis “Razor” Blaydes does already have a win over Aspinall under his belt from 2022, when he knocked out the current interim champ in just 15 seconds. Blaydes will look for another short and sweet fight here as he tries to get UFC gold around his waist in his first career title bout.
Blaydes will be as aggressive as always in this fight as he is never one to try and win a fight by decision. But defending the explosive power of Aspinall will also be key for Blaydes if he wants to get off to a good start in this fight. Aspinall went to the legs of Pavlovich early on in his last fight, setting up a killer shot to the head. Blaydes has to protect both his head and legs here if he wants to avoid staring up at the lights early on.
