St. Louis Cardinals vs Miami Marlins Pick – 8/18/2025
The St. Louis Cardinals will begin a three-game series against the Miami Marlins on Monday. The Cardinals are ice cold coming into this matchup and will be desperate for a win to end their current losing streak. The Cardinals are still in the NL Wild Card race but that could change if their struggles continue. Here, I have taken a closer look at this matchup and you can find my Cardinals vs Marlins prediction below.

Key Storylines
Pitching Matchup
Matthew Liberatore has struggled to string together solid performances for the Cardinals. He enters this start carrying a 6-10 record and a 4.08 ERA. Miami’s Eury Pérez enters with a stronger resume. He has a 3.58 ERA and sub-1.00 WHIP. He recently got a win with eight strikeouts in four innings against Cleveland. The advantage leans to Pérez on the mound thanks to his control and ability to limit damage deep into outings.
Wild Card Chase
Both of these teams are within 6.5 games of the final Wild Card spot in the National League. St. Louis is five games back of that last NL playoff spot and the Marlins are 6.5 games back. There is still time for both teams to make up that ground but wins in games like this one will be vital to their chances of doing so.
Recent Team Streaks
- The Cardinals are on a five-game losing streak and were swept by the New York Yankees over the weekend.
- The Marlins ended a three-game losing streak by beating the Boston Red Sox on Sunday.

The Marlins lead the season series 2-1 over the Cardinals going into this series opener. Miami took two out of three from the Cardinals in St. Louis back in late July. All three games in that series saw these teams combine to score eight runs or fewer.

Final Thoughts
I am very high on Eury Perez in the second half of this season. He has been electric for the Marlins and is one of the reasons that the Marlins have been as respectable as they have been in 2025. I expect Perez to have another strong start tonight against a struggling Cardinals team. My best bet for this game is for the Marlins to win at home and hand the Cards their sixth loss in a row.
