Key Storylines
Pitching Matchup
Sean Manaea (1–2, 5.01 ERA) takes the mound for the Mets. The left-hander has shown flashes of brilliance but has struggled with consistency. He allowed two earned runs over 4.2 innings against the Phillies in his last start. His strikeout-to-walk ratio stands at 6.63 and he has a WHIP of 1.14. He may have a slight edge over Detroit’s starting pitcher going into this game
Charlie Morton (9–10, 5.25 ERA) starts for the Tigers. The veteran right-hander has had an up-and-down season but still has a high ceiling on the mound. He surrendered five earned runs over five innings against the Athletics in his last start. Morton boasts 137 strikeouts in 128.2 innings pitched this season but all of those strikeouts have not helped keep opponents off the scoreboard.
Key Players
- Juan Soto (Mets): Juan Soto is tied with Mickey Mantle for the most games with at least one home run and one walk before turning 27. His power and plate discipline will be important in this game.
- Riley Greene (Tigers): Greene is a rising star in the Tigers’ lineup. His ability to get on base and drive in runs will be crucial for Detroit’s success.
Recent Team Streaks
- The Mets have lost two games in a row and dropped three out of four games to the Marlins in their last series.
- The Tigers took two of their last three games against the Kansas City Royals before this series.

Final Thoughts
This game is more or less a toss-up between two teams with a ton of talent on both sides. Instead of betting on one side or the other to pick up the win, I am more interested in the total. I think that the over has a ton of value going into this game as the starting pitching is inconsistent for both teams entering this matchup. I’ll take the over and expect some power hitting from both of these playoff contenders.
