The Milwaukee Brewers (94-59) will visit the St. Louis Cardinals (74-79) at Busch Stadium on Friday night. With just over a week remaining in the regular season, the Brewers are aiming to extend their lead over the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central. The Cardinals are holding onto faint playoff hopes and will try to get a win to help those hopes tonight. Here, I take a closer look at this NL Central matchup and give you my Brewers vs Cardinals prediction.

Key Storylines
Pitching Matchup
Jacob Misiorowski (5-2, 4.35 ERA) takes the mound for the Brewers. The rookie right-hander has shown promise, striking out 81 batters in 60 innings. In his last outing against the Cardinals on September 13, Misiorowski allowed four earned runs over 5.1 innings but did not factor into the decision. He will look to improve on that performance and help the Brewers secure a crucial road win.
Opposing Misiorowski is veteran Sonny Gray (13-8, 4.43 ERA) for the Cardinals. Gray has been a workhorse for St. Louis, logging over 168 innings this season. However, he has struggled against the Brewers, posting a 5.40 ERA in two starts against them this year. Gray will need to improve upon those numbers to keep the Cardinals competitive in this matchup.
Recent Team Streaks
- Brewers: Milwaukee has been red-hot. They swept the Los Angeles Angels in their most recent series and have a six game lead in the NL Central standings.
- Cardinals: St. Louis has lost three of their last five games and will look for a key win here.

Final Thoughts
The Brewers have been a better team than the Cardinals for most of this season. But the Cardinals are in desperation mode and trying to avoid falling even further out of the NL Wild Card picture. That should be a factor in this game, as should the fact that the Cardinals have one of their more dependable starting pitchers on the mound.
My best bet for this NL Central matchup is to take the Cardinals to win on the moneyline at home. St. Louis has a winning record at Busch Stadium and should improve on it against a Brewers team that doesn’t have the same sense of urgency down the stretch.
