Key Storylines
One of the central narratives entering this game is how Texas responds to adversity and whether Kentucky can capitalize on it. Texas will be shorthanded along the offensive line, missing starting center Cole Hutson and guard Connor Stroh. That will greatly impact the Longhorns’ pass protection and run blocking. The Wildcats’ defense will get a boost with the return of DB DJ Waller, shoring up a secondary that’s been vulnerable in recent weeks.
Texas’ defense enters this contest with renewed confidence after shutting down Oklahoma’s offense in the second half and forcing turnovers in last week’s Red River Rivalry win. That unit must replicate that performance if the Longhorns are to control this game on the road.
Quarterback Play
Arch Manning has improved as the season has progressed, showing better decision-making and comfort in the Texas offense. He completed 21 of 27 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown against Oklahoma. Those are not gaudy numbers, but he was efficient and played mistake-free football. The Longhorns will rely on him to manage the game and use his mobility to try and get Kentucky’s defense off-balance.
Kentucky’s quarterback play has been inconsistent. Cutter Boley threw two touchdown passes in Kentucky’s loss to Georgia in their last game. But the Kentucky defense will likely have to carry the Wildcats to any real shot they have of winning this game.

Final Thoughts
Texas should be able to win this game on the road and avoid a third loss that would surely knock them out of College Football Playoff contention. But I think that Kentucky will cover the spread as a double-digit underdog at home. The Wildcats’ defense will make life difficult on Arch Manning, especially with issues surrounding the interior offensive line for the Longhorns. I will take the points with Kentucky in this game, in what should be a good game in the SEC.
