Oklahoma vs Temple Pick & Prediction – 9/13/2025

Oklahoma will head to Philadelphia on Saturday for a non-conference matchup with the Temple Owls. This is an interesting matchup in that the Sooners are completing the second leg of a home-and-home with a team from a much smaller conference. But the game is taking place at an NFL stadium and the home of one of the best players to play at Oklahoma in the recent history of the program. Here, I break down this matchup and give you my Oklahoma vs Temple prediction for this contest.

Game Snapshot

  • Matchup: Oklahoma Sooners vs Temple Owls
  • Date & Time: Saturday, September 13, 12:00 p.m. ET
  • Venue: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA
  • Broadcast: ESPN2

Key Storylines

  • Oklahoma is off to a great start with a 2-0 record. They beat Illinois State of the FCS and the Michigan Wolverines by double-digits. The Sooners are ranked 13th in the country and will try to pass their first road test of the year.
  • Temple is also 2-0 so far this season with wins over weaker competition. They beat UMass and Howard of the FCS by over 30 points each. But this is a much tougher game and we will learn a lot about Temple in this contest against a very good team.

Quarterback Play

John Mateer has performed very well to start his time in Norman. Mateer has averaged over 300 passing yards per game with four touchdowns and two interceptions. He also leads the Sooners in rushing with 98 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Temple’s defense will have its hands full with Mateer’s ability to throw and run.

Evan Simon has looked very dangerous for Temple early in the season. He has nine touchdown passes through the team’s first two games. It is important to note that we aren’t likely to see Simon look that good against an actually competitive FBS team. But he does deserve credit for helping Temple to get off to a fast start.

  • Oklahoma is 1-1 against the spread this season.
  • Temple is 2-0 against the spread to start the year.
  • These teams have played once all-time. Oklahoma won that game 51-3 last season.

Oklahoma vs Temple Model Projection

Score Projection: Oklahoma 45 – Temple 13

Win Probability: Oklahoma 92%, Temple 8%

Final Thoughts

I don’t think that we are going to see Oklahoma win this game 51-3 the same way that they did at home against Temple last season. But I do think that Oklahoma is going to cover the spread in this matchup. John Mateer is a great college quarterback and this is the kind of game where his dual-threat ability will help Oklahoma avoid long-yardage third-down situations and keep things moving. Oklahoma should put up a big number on the scoreboard and win by enough to cover the number thanks in large part to Mateer.
