Key Storylines
- Clay Helton returns as head coach for his fourth year with Georgia Southern. The Eagles went 8-5 last season and finished second in the East Division in the Sun Belt. They will try to improve both their record and their place in the standings with a victory here.
- Fresno State looks to bounce back from a lopsided loss at Kansas in Week 0. Rice transfer quarterback E.J. Warner threw for 179 yards and threw two interceptions. He will try to contribute more without facing a power conference opponent this week.
- We are going to learn a lot more about Fresno State than we did last week against the Jayhawks. The Bulldogs were at a physical disadvantage against Kansas that prevented them from getting their running game going. The Bulldogs should have a rusher reach 35 yards this week after being unable to do so in Lawrence.
Quarterback Play
- Georgia Southern: JC French brings experience and continuity to the Georgia Southern offense after a solid 2024 season. French had just over 2,800 yards last year through the air for the Eagles.
- Fresno State: E.J. Warner showed flashes but also made mistakes in the opener. This was not a surprise given the caliber of opponent he faced last week. But Warner will still need to be better here.

My expectation is that we are going to get a close game between these teams. I think that there is some value in betting on Fresno State as a slight underdog at home. They should look better than they did against a Big 12 team last week and I’ll take the Bulldogs to get the win on the moneyline on Saturday night.
