Key Storylines
- Georgia’s new signal caller Gunner Stockton accounted for four touchdowns against Marshall and the Bulldogs cruised against FCS Austin Peay the week after that. This is Georgia’s first real test of the season and Stockton will try to pass it from the quarterback position.
- Tennessee’s App State transfer Joey Aguilar threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns Tennessee’s opening week win over Syracuse. The Vols also beat an FCS opponent last week when they destroyed East Tennessee State.
- Tennessee produced five sacks and seven tackles for loss against Syracuse. Georgia is known for winning the line of scrimmage themselves. The team that is better upfront will give themselves a clear path to victory.
- This is the first SEC game of the year for both of these teams. You don’t want to be trailing in the conference standings and have to play catch-up and both sides will try to avoid that fate.
Quarterback Play
Gunner Stockton’s debut as the full-time starter has gone well so far. He has completed just over two-thirds of his passes and has two passing touchdowns and no interceptions. Stockton failed his last test against a powerhouse program in last year’s College Football Playoff and he will try to atone for that here.
Joey Aguilar gave Tennessee exactly what it needed in Week 1 against Syracuse. He went 16-of-28 for 247 yards and three touchdowns. Aguilar answered questions about how he would perform in the transition from playing in the Sun Belt to playing for an SEC team and this will be his first in-conference test as an SEC signal caller.

Final Thoughts
I like what I’ve seen so far from Aguilar and the Tennessee offense. I think that Aguilar will regress somewhat against an elite defense. But Tennessee should keep this game close at home. I’ll take the points with Tennessee in a game that has huge early SEC title implications.
