Central Michigan will visit Michigan on Saturday afternoon in Ann Arbor. The Chippewas are off to a 1-1 start and are set to play their third straight game on the road here. Michigan is also 1-1 after failing their first test against a ranked team last week. One of these teams will bounce back from their first loss of the season. Who will that be? Game Snapshot

  • Matchup: Central Michigan Chippewas vs Michigan Wolverines
  • Date & Time: Saturday, September 13, 2025, 12:00 PM ET
  • Venue: Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor, MI
  • Broadcast: Big Ten Network

Key Storylines

  • Both teams lost to power conference opponents last week. Central Michigan lost on the road to Pitt last week and Michigan took a loss to the Oklahoma Sooners. It would take a miracle for Central Michigan to avoid a second straight loss here, but it could happen!
  • Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood was underwhelming in last week’s game against Oklahoma. He has just one touchdown pass for the season and will try to bounce back from that performance back on his home turf.

Quarterback Play

Michigan’s Bryce Underwood completed just nine of his 24 pass attempts against Oklahoma for 142 yards. His only touchdown pass of the season came in a guarantee game at home against New Mexico in the Wolverines’ opener. We are likely to see the freshman quarterback play well again here but there will still be questions about his ability to perform against better competition.

We’ve seen multiple quarterbacks on the field for the Chippewas in the early portion of this season. They are led in passing by Joe Labas, who has completed two-thirds of his passes but has yet to reach 150 passing yards for the season. Someone will need to step up at quarterback for the Chips to have any chance to win this matchup.

  • Central Michigan is 1-1 against the spread so far this season.
  • Michigan is 0-2 against the spread to begin this season.
  • All-time series: Michigan leads 4-0 against Central Michigan all-time. Their last meeting was a 59-9 home win for the Wolverines in 2013.

Central Michigan vs Michigan Model Projection

Score Projection: Central Michigan 7 – Michigan 31

Win Probability: Central Michigan 2%, Michigan 98%

Final Thoughts

I don’t think there exists a scenario in which Central Michigan can beat Michigan in this game. The physical advantages in the trenches for the Wolverines should bail them out even if Underwood struggles again. But I do think that Central Michigan can cover the spread in this game. Underwood has been underwhelming to this point in the year and, while he will be better here than he was in Oklahoma, the Chippewas should keep this game inside of 28 points.
