Key Storylines
- Buffalo’s Offensive Balance: The Bulls come into this week averaging 25.2 points per game. Quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson has thrown for 934 yards and eight touchdowns, while running back Al-Jay Henderson leads the ground game with 418 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Wide receiver Victor Snow has been a reliable target, accumulating 410 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns. The Bulls will try to take advantage of facing one of the worst teams in FBS football here.
- UMass’s Struggles: The Minutemen have yet to secure a win this season. They are 0-6 and averaging just 9.7 points per game. Quarterback AJ Hairston has thrown for 517 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. Running back Rocko Griffin leads the team with 166 rushing yards and one touchdown, while wide receiver Jacquon Gibson has a team-best 358 receiving yards. The Minutemen lost 42-6 at Kent State last week, giving the Golden Flashes their first win over an FBS opponent since 2022.
- Defensive Matchups: Buffalo’s defense has been solid. They are allowing 21.3 points per game. Defensive end Khalil Murdock leads the team with 2.5 sacks. UMass’ defense has struggled, conceding 36.8 points per game. That huge difference between the two defenses could be what ultimately gives Buffalo the edge on Saturday.

Final Thoughts
At this point, I’m not sure that I’d take UMass to cover the spread against even an FCS opponent. Instead, I am going to lay the points with the Buffalo Bulls here. They have been respectable on both sides of the ball and should take full advantage of facing a UMass defense that was torched by lowly Kent State last week.
