- Fury faced a much more powerful puncher in Francis Ngannou in his last fight and managed to win that, albeit by decision.
- Fury has won five of his last seven fights by knockout, including two over Deontay Wilder.
One of the biggest sporting events this weekend comes from Saudi Arabia, where Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will do battle for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world. These two incredible boxers have zero combined losses between them in their careers, meaning a win for either of them will take an incredible effort. Continue reading for our breakdown of Fury vs Usyk in one of the biggest boxing matches in a long time.
Tyson Fury
Tyson Fury comes into this super-field with a record of 34-0-1 in his career. However, there is an argument to be made that he did not win his last fight. That fight came against MMA great Francis Ngannou, who Fury defeated by split decision after a very competitive 10-round bout. Now Fury puts his WBC heavyweight title on the line, with a chance to collect three more championships and become undisputed heavyweight champ.
Encouraging for Fury is the fact that he made it through the Ngannou fight with his unbeaten record in tact. While Fury was far from a convincing winner in that bout, he was able to withstand the incredible power of Ngannou, who may hit harder than Usyk even if he lacks the traditional boxing technique. That would make it hard to see Fury get knocked out in this fight, with the question then being whether Fury can do enough to remain perfect if he can’t score a knockout of his own.
Oleksandr Usyk
Going into this Fury vs Usyk fight, Oleksandr Usyk is 21-0-0 for his career. His last fight was a win over Daniel Dubois in Poland, where Usyk retained his WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles. But the Ukranian could lose his championships to Fury here, as the heavyweight titles will be unified after this fight from Riyadh.
Usyk’s career is highlighted by his by his pair of wins over Anthony Joshua in 2021 and 2022. Both of those victories came by decision, with the Ukranian winning by unanimous decision over Joshua in 2021 and split decision over him in 2022. Usyk has had just two knockouts since 2018, which is a big reason that this fight has a total set at 10.5 rounds, which is juiced heavily to the over.
The size advantage for Fury could be the key to this fight, as he is six inches taller than Usyk. That size edge should mean a little extra power and the ability to land some more strikes at range. While this should be a sensational fight, we expect Fury to come out on top as a slight favorite to become the undisputed champ.
