The 2026 NFL season features two conference futures markets that tell very different stories. Traders have created a distinct hierarchy in the NFC, where one division has separated from the field, while the AFC remains far more crowded at the top. Early in the season, much of the current evaluation still rests on offseason roster moves, quarterback health, coaching changes, and results from the early portion of the year.
Los Angeles stands alone at the top of the NFC market. The Rams have created separation from every other team after an aggressive offseason added Myles Garrett to a defense that also gets Aaron Donald back. Pair that group with Matthew Stafford and Puka Nacua, and there are few obvious weak points on the roster. Traders at Polymarket are clearly treating Los Angeles as the conference standard early in 2026, even with Garrett and Donald's health being questionable early on and the Rams off to a slow start.
Seattle occupies the next tier after winning the NFC and Super Bowl last season. The Seahawks retain many of the pieces responsible for that run, but repeating is rarely simple. Kenneth Walker III departed for Kansas City, while Nick Emmanwori and Sam Darnold have dealt with injuries. Seattle still deserves serious consideration, though the market sees a gap between the defending champions and Los Angeles.
San Francisco is the third NFC West team that is in NFC title consideration this year. Brock Purdy has his arsenal of offensive weapons largely healthy again, while the Niners have been strong defensively as well in the early portion of the 2026 season. If those things continue, the Niners could jump over their division rivals to grab the NFC title.
The next group is where the NFC becomes much harder to separate. Detroit and Philadelphia sit near each other, with the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears also right there. Philadelphia has struggled while installing a new offense under Sean Mannion, but they have a winnable division and should be able to make the playoffs, while the three aforementioned NFC North teams will have to overcome one another to make the postseason.
The Rams are my NFC prediction. Their market position is aggressive, and they haven't looked great early in the year, yet their roster supports it. Los Angeles can win through Stafford and the passing game or lean on a defense loaded with proven high-end talent. The NFC West will be difficult, particularly with Seattle and San Francisco in the mix, but the Rams still have the best combination of quarterback play, defensive star power, and roster depth in the conference.
The AFC market looks almost nothing like the NFC. Buffalo sits at the front, but the Bills have little breathing room over Baltimore, Kansas City, and a large group immediately behind them. That tells us traders see several teams with realistic paths to the conference title rather than a dominant favorite. Quarterback quality is a major reason. Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, and Joe Burrow all give their teams a passing game that can get them through tough situations.
Buffalo is off to a great start under new head coach Joe Brady after another offseason built around Allen. The market gives the Bills a slight edge, especially after they have shown that the coaching change hasn't derailed them yet. Baltimore is close behind with Lamar Jackson returning under new head coach Jesse Minter. Both clubs have enough talent to finish with a top seed. And Kansas City looks like its old self again with a healthy Patrick Mahomes leading them.
The Jacksonville Jaguars, Denver Broncos, and Cincinnati Bengals make up the next group of AFC title contenders. Jacksonville's defense has caused headaches for multiple title contenders early in the year, while the Broncos have showed a ton of toughness with multiple second-half comebacks to beat teams like the Jags and Rams. And if Joe Burrow stays healthy, the Bengals have showcased the type of offense that could get them back to the Super Bowl.
Baltimore is my pick to win the AFC. Jackson looks great early in the year, while Derrick Henry has not slowed down quite yet either. We'll take Baltimore to finally get over the hump, though the Bills will certainly give them a run for their money throughout the 2026 campaign.
