The 2026 NFL season features two conference futures markets that tell very different stories. Traders have created a distinct hierarchy in the NFC, where one team has separated from the field, while the AFC remains far more crowded at the top. Early in the season, much of the current evaluation still rests on offseason roster moves, quarterback health, coaching changes, and the strength each contender carries over from last season.
Los Angeles stands alone at the top of the NFC market. The Rams have created separation from every other team after an aggressive offseason added Myles Garrett to a defense that also gets Aaron Donald back. Pair that group with Matthew Stafford and Puka Nacua, and there are few obvious weak points on the roster. Traders at Polymarket are clearly treating Los Angeles as the conference standard early in 2026, even with Garrett and Donald's health being questionable early on.
Seattle occupies the next tier after winning the NFC and Super Bowl last season. The Seahawks retain many of the pieces responsible for that run, but repeating is rarely simple. Kenneth Walker III departed for Kansas City, while Nick Emmanwori and Tory Horton have dealt with injuries. Seattle still deserves serious consideration, though the market sees a meaningful gap between the defending champions and Los Angeles.
The next group is where the NFC becomes much harder to separate. Detroit and Philadelphia sit near each other, with San Francisco close behind. Philadelphia is installing a new offense under Sean Mannion and enters the season without A.J. Brown, leaving DeVonta Smith with a larger role. A healthy Saquon Barkley gives the Eagles an established foundation while Jalen Hurts adjusts to the new system.
San Francisco carries more uncertainty but also considerable upside. Nick Bosa is back after recovering from his latest ACL injury, while George Kittle is also back from a torn Achilles. Dallas, Chicago, and Green Bay form another tightly packed group behind the 49ers. That distribution makes sense for teams with playoff-level ceilings but more questions than the top contenders.
The Rams are my NFC prediction. Their market position is aggressive, and they haven't looked great early in the year, yet their roster supports it. Los Angeles can win through Stafford and the passing game or lean on a defense loaded with proven high-end talent. The NFC West will be difficult, particularly with Seattle and San Francisco in the mix, but the Rams enter the season with the best combination of quarterback play, defensive star power, and roster depth in the conference.
The AFC market looks almost nothing like the NFC. Buffalo sits at the front, but the Bills have little breathing room over Baltimore and a large group immediately behind them. That tells us traders see several teams with realistic paths to the conference title rather than a dominant favorite. Quarterback quality is a major reason. Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, and Joe Burrow all give their teams a passing game that can get them through tough situations.
Buffalo begins the season under new head coach Joe Brady after another offseason built around Allen. The market gives the Bills a slight edge, yet a coaching transition creates some uncertainty for them. Baltimore is close behind with Lamar Jackson returning under new head coach Jesse Minter. Both clubs have enough talent to finish with a top seed, but neither has created the type of separation Los Angeles holds in the NFC.
The next group is unusually deep. Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, and New England are clustered close enough that relatively small developments could reorder the market quickly. Houston brings an established defense, while the Chargers have Justin Herbert anchoring their case. Kansas City remains especially interesting because Patrick Mahomes is returning from an ACL injury. His health could have a major effect on how the conference is viewed after the first few weeks.
New England enters the season after reaching the Super Bowl last year, but its potential for a Super Bowl hangover could make them less attractive in the futures market. Denver and Cincinnati sit just outside that lead cluster, giving the AFC roughly half a conference of teams that traders currently regard as serious possibilities.
Baltimore is my pick to win the AFC. Jackson looks great early in the year, while Derrick Henry has not slowed down quite yet either. We'll take Baltimore to finally get over the hump, though the Bills will certainly give them a run for their money throughout the 2026 campaign.
