NFC North Futures: Who Will Win the NFC North This Year?

The NFC North is without an overwhelming favorite, which makes its division winner market one of the more interesting futures races in the NFL. Detroit sits at the front of Polymarket’s current pricing, but defending division champion Chicago and Green Bay remain close enough to make this a genuine three-team race. Minnesota is priced as the outsider, though a major change at quarterback gives the Vikings a route to surprising the market.
Detroit is the market favorite despite a disappointing 2025 season. That says plenty about how much faith remains in the core built around Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Penei Sewell, and Aidan Hutchinson. Detroit finished 2025 with an 11-6 record but still found itself looking up at Chicago in the NFC North. The front office responded by making significant changes along the offensive line and adding several lower-cost pieces around an established group of stars.
The biggest question is whether Detroit’s offensive line changes improve a group that fell short of its previous standard. Blake Miller arrives as a first-round addition, while Cade Mays gives Detroit another option up front. The Lions also added Isiah Pacheco to a backfield that no longer includes David Montgomery. Defensively, Hutchinson remains the centerpiece of a front that produced 49 sacks last season, tied for fourth in the league, and Detroit added DJ Wonnum and rookie Derrick Moore to support him.
Polymarket clearly respects Detroit’s ceiling, but the price also asks traders to assume that 2025 was more of an exception than a warning. There are early concerns in the defensive backfield, with Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch set to miss at least the opening four games. Detroit has enough high-level talent to win this division, and the market is treating that talent as the most reliable starting point in the North. Still, the gap between the Lions and the rest of the field is small enough that buyers are paying for a rebound rather than backing a proven 2026 favorite.
Green Bay lands slightly behind Chicago in the current market, creating an unusual position for a franchise that has spent much of the past few seasons viewed as one of the NFC’s top teams. The Packers finished 9-7-1 in 2025 and reached the playoffs before losing in the opening round. Jordan Love remains the central reason to believe this offense can compete for the division, while Christian Watson and Matthew Golden give him an intriguing receiving group.
The larger questions are elsewhere for the Packers. Green Bay reshaped portions of its roster after major financial commitments, while Micah Parsons is still working his way back from reconstructive knee surgery. Rashan Gary and Elgton Jenkins are among the important departures, and Jonathan Gannon takes over the defense. The absence of Josh Jacobs leaves Green Bay needing production from less proven options in the backfield.
That helps explain why Polymarket has Green Bay sitting behind Detroit and Chicago instead of alongside the Lions at the top. The Packers have a quarterback capable of keeping them in the race deep into December, and their younger offensive talent offers upside. The concern is that too many important pieces must settle in at once.
Chicago may be the most interesting team in this market. The Bears are the defending NFC North champions, yet Polymarket still prices Detroit ahead of them. Chicago’s 2025 breakthrough was driven by major growth from Caleb Williams during his first season with Ben Johnson. Williams set a Bears single-season record with 3,942 passing yards, while Chicago ranked sixth in total offense and ninth in scoring. The Bears also won a playoff game against Green Bay before their season ended in overtime against the Rams.
Williams now gets a second year in Johnson’s system, which may be the biggest reason to take Chicago seriously as a repeat candidate. His command of the offense improved substantially last season, and there should be more room for the scheme to grow now that basic pre-snap responsibilities have become familiar. Chicago did lose DJ Moore and Gervon Dexter Sr., so this is not simply the same roster returning for another run. The defensive front in particular will need to prove it has enough quality across a full season.
Minnesota sits at the bottom of the current NFC North market, but the Vikings might also have the largest single variable capable of changing how the division looks. Kyler Murray has taken over as the starting quarterback after Minnesota struggled to find consistency at the position in 2025. The Vikings still finished 9-8 and closed the year with five consecutive victories despite lackluster quarterback production. That gives Kevin O’Connell a strong foundation if Murray can provide better play.
Murray joins an offense featuring Justin Jefferson and a coaching staff with a history of putting quarterbacks in favorable situations. There is risk. Murray’s final years in Arizona were affected by injuries and declining production, while Minnesota’s interior offensive line remains a concern. The Vikings also lost several significant defensive contributors, including Jonathan Greenard, Javon Hargrave, and Jonathan Allen. Still, Brian Flores returns to run a defense that finished third in DVOA last season, giving Minnesota a chance to stay competitive while its new quarterback settles in.
The Lions have the best collection of established high-end talent, Green Bay has a proven quarterback and considerable upside, and Minnesota has a potentially significant quarterback upgrade. Chicago, however, is the team I would back to win the division.
The Bears already showed in 2025 that Johnson and Williams can produce a division-winning offense, and another year together gives Chicago a realistic chance to improve without needing a dramatic leap from its quarterback. Detroit deserves to be favored, but the difference between the Lions and Bears appears smaller than the market currently suggests. In a division likely to be decided by narrow margins, Chicago’s combination of continuity, quarterback development, and recent success makes the Bears my pick to repeat as NFC North champions.
