The 2026 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year race can go in any number of directions early in the year. The leading candidates all have obvious talent, but each carries a question about health, playing time, or their offensive role. That has left traders without a dominant choice and created a market where early regular-season usage rates could change the hierarchy quickly. Recent history still favors premium draft capital, with each of the past 8 winners coming from the top 10 picks.
Polymarket currently treats Jeremiyah Love and Fernando Mendoza as the top contenders, with a significant gap separating them from the rest of the listed field. Makai Lemon is a part of the next tier of contenders, while Mike Washington Jr. and Omar Cooper Jr. also sit considerably farther back. The market makes sense. Love has a potential three-down role when healthy, while Mendoza carries the value that usually comes with being a No. 1 overall quarterback.
Neither favorite has an ideal setup early in the season, though. Love is returning from a high-ankle sprain suffered in August, while Mendoza will begin the season sitting behind Kirk Cousins. That uncertainty leaves room for a receiver or another running back to make an early statistical case before the favorites fully establish themselves.
Love has the strongest combination of draft position and potential workload in the rookie class. Arizona selected the Notre Dame running back No. 3 overall after finishing near the bottom of the league in rushing production last season. His ankle injury complicates the opening portion of the schedule, but Arizona remains optimistic about his progress. If Love gets healthy and handles 15 to 20 touches per game, his ability as both a runner and receiver gives him a realistic path to leading all rookies in yards from scrimmage.
Quarterbacks can take control of this award quickly because their statistics and team results receive so much attention. The problem is that the No. 1 overall selection is opening the year on the bench. Las Vegas named Cousins its starter after the veteran won the preseason competition, although Mendoza is still expected to play at some point this season. A midseason promotion could put him back near the center of the race, but every missed start reduces his statistical ceiling.
Philadelphia traded up to select Lemon at No. 20, but immediate volume could be difficult to find. The Eagles have DeVonta Smith and several veteran receiving options ahead of or alongside him, and Lemon also lost practice time because of a hamstring issue. His route-running skills could eventually earn him a larger role, yet he may need injuries or a major shift in target distribution to produce award-level numbers.
Washington offers one of the more interesting long-shot cases because his opportunities to make an impact could expand quickly. The Raiders rookie impressed during the preseason, including 49 rushing yards on 8 carries in the finale, and his coaching staff has indicated he should have a meaningful role. Ashton Jeanty remains the primary option, but Washington has enough receiving ability to earn work even without becoming the full-time starter.
Cooper enters a Jets offense where Garrett Wilson is clearly the top receiving option, but the depth behind him is less settled. That gives the rookie a route to regular snaps if he establishes himself early. Winning the award from that position would likely require Cooper to become one of Geno Smith’s primary targets and produce several high-output games.
Tate may be the most intriguing player outside the market leaders. Tennessee selected him No. 4 overall, and he enters the season listed as a starting receiver alongside veterans Calvin Ridley and Wan'Dale Robinson. That immediate role gives Tate something several higher-priced contenders lack: a clear path to significant snaps from Week 1. His health bears watching, but his combination of draft position and starting opportunity makes him a serious threat.
Jeremiyah Love is our pick. Mendoza may eventually become the most important player in this rookie class, but losing several early starts creates too much ground to recover in an award race built heavily on season-long production. Lemon faces stiff competition for targets, while the other contenders require larger changes in their current roles.
Love already has the clearest route to becoming the centerpiece of his offense. His ankle is the major concern, but Arizona invested the No. 3 selection in him for a reason. If he returns without lingering limitations, a season with more than 1,000 yards from scrimmage and double-digit touchdowns is realistic. In a wide-open field with no established statistical leader, that gives Love the best chance to finish the season as the 2026 Offensive Rookie of the Year.
