A quick guide to MLB betting terms, followed by examples of the markets most commonly used in baseball.
The moneyline is baseball's primary market. It asks you to pick the winner, with the price reflecting each team's implied probability and the sportsbook margin.
Run lines are usually fixed at 1.5 runs. The favorite must win by two or more, while the underdog can win outright or lose by one run.
A total is an over/under on combined runs. Ballpark conditions, starting pitchers, bullpen availability and weather can all affect the number.
First-five markets focus on the starting-pitcher matchup. Props cover events such as strikeouts and home runs, while futures include the World Series and league pennants.
