FanDuel Legal States Explained: Where the Sportsbook, Casino, DFS & Other Apps Are Allowed

Ever wondered why your friend in another state can use FanDuel but you can't? Well, it's because each state has its own laws and regulations for sports betting (and other forms of online gambling). This guide explains where FanDuel is legally available by product (Sportsbook, Casino, DFS, Picks, Racing, and Faceoff). Legal status, launch dates, licensing partners, and product availability were verified using state regulator announcements, operator disclosures, and in-app location checks. Availability can change by jurisdiction and is subject to updates.

Where Is FanDuel Sportsbook Legal?

FanDuel is available in many states with legal online sports betting, but availability depends on licensing, market access rules, and product approvals that can vary by jurisdiction.

Right now, you can use the FanDuel Sportsbook app or website to bet in 23 states, plus Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. The full list is in the table below.

Note: Launch dates reflect the first day online wagering was available to eligible users, verified via operator announcements and state updates as of July 2026.

To keep everything legal, FanDuel checks where you’re located before you can place a bet. It uses your phone or computer’s built-in location services to confirm you’re actually inside a state that allows online betting. If you are, you’re cleared to play. If not, the app will block you until you’re back in a legal area.

States Where FanDuel Sportsbook Isn't Available Yet

Right now, there are 27 states where you can’t use the FanDuel app to bet on sports. Here’s the full list:

• Alabama
• Alaska
• Arkansas
• California
• Delaware
• Florida
• Georgia
• Hawaii
• Idaho
• Maine
• Minnesota
• Mississippi
• Montana
• Nebraska
• New Hampshire
• New Mexico
• Nevada
• North Dakota
• Oklahoma
• Oregon
• Rhode Island
• South Carolina
• South Dakota
• Texas
• Utah
• Washington
• Wisconsin

If you can’t access FanDuel Sportsbook from where you live, don’t worry... you still have a few options.

1. If you live in a state where online sports betting is legal but FanDuel isn’t available, your options depend on the market structure. Some states are competitive markets with multiple operators, while others are limited or exclusive. For example, Florida online sports betting is currently available only through Hard Rock Bet, so FanDuel is not an option there as of July, 2026.
2. If you live in a state that hasn’t legalized online sports betting yet (like California, Georgia, or Texas): You can still try FanDuel Fantasy Sports or FanDuel Picks (check the sections below for their legal states). You can also look into social sportsbooks, which are legal in most states because they run on a sweepstakes model instead of real-money wagering.

Where Is FanDuel Casino Legal?

FanDuel’s online casino isn’t as widely available as the sportsbook. Right now, you can only use the FanDuel app to play casino games for real money in five states. Here’s the full list.

And just a heads-up about Connecticut: FanDuel Casino uses Mohegan Sun branding there because of its partnership with the Mohegan Tribe.

So you’ll be using the Mohegan Sun CT app and website instead of a FanDuel-branded version, but the experience is pretty much the same as what you’d get in any other state where FanDuel is legal.

Why Are There Fewer Legal States for FanDuel Casino?

In case you’re wondering why there are more FanDuel Sportsbook legal states than FanDuel Casino legal states, it’s mainly because online sports betting has rolled out a lot faster across the U.S.

More than 30 states already have legal online sports betting, but only 7 states allow online casino gaming. Until that starts to change, you’ll continue to see a pretty big difference between where FanDuel Sportsbook is legal and where FanDuel Casino is legal.

Where Is FanDuel Daily Fantasy Sports Legal?

FanDuel's daily fantasy sports platform is available in most of the country. Right now, you can enter paid contests and win cash prizes in 44 out of 50 states using the FanDuel Fantasy Sports app. I’m not going to list all 44 here (that’d take a while), but here are the states where FanDuel DFS isn’t allowed:

• Delaware
• Hawaii
• Idaho
• Montana
• Nevada
• Washington

*Note: FanDuel Fantasy Sports is 18+ in most states, but Alabama requires players to be 19+, and Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, and Virginia require 21+.

FanDuel’s fantasy contests can be offered in so many places because DFS is usually treated as a game of skill (not pure chance) under the eyes of the law.

Because of that, most states either allow real-money fantasy contests outright or haven’t taken any steps to block FanDuel and other operators from offering them within their borders.

Where Is FanDuel Picks Legal?

FanDuel Picks (the brand’s peer-to-peer DFS product where you build entries by choosing “More” or “Less” on different player stat projections) isn’t available in nearly as many places as FanDuel’s main DFS product. Right now, it’s only legal in 17 U.S. states.

Here’s the full list of where you can use the FanDuel Picks app to enter paid contests and play for cash prizes.

• Alabama
• Alaska
• Arkansas
• Georgia
• Minnesota
• Missouri
• Nebraska
• New Hampshire
• New Mexico
• North Dakota
• Oklahoma
• Oregon
• Rhode Island
• South Dakota
• Texas
• Utah
• Wisconsin

The reason FanDuel Picks isn’t offered in as many states is that a lot of states have recently started cracking down on Pick’em-style contests. Regulators often argue that this format feels too close to traditional sports betting and the player prop markets that sportsbooks already offer.

Where Is FanDuel Racing Legal?

FanDuel Racing, the brand’s online betting platform for horse racing, is legal in 31 U.S. states right now. You can bet on horse races (either through the FanDuel Racing app or directly inside the FanDuel Sportsbook app) if you're physically located in one of these states:

Where Is FanDuel Faceoff Legal?

FanDuel Faceoff (the brand’s skill-based gaming app where you play against real people for real money in games like solitaire, Wheel of Fortune, and Scrabble) is legal in 31 U.S. states, plus Washington, D.C. Here’s the full list of states where FanDuel offers these types of games:

• Alabama
• Alaska
• California
• Colorado
• Delaware
• Florida
• Georgia
• Illinois
• Indiana
• Kansas
• Kentucky
• Maine
• Massachusetts
• Minnesota
• Mississippi
• Nebraska

• New Mexico
• New York
• North Carolina
• North Dakota
• Ohio
• Oklahoma
• Oregon
• Rhode Island
• Texas
• Utah
• Vermont
• Virginia
• Washington, D.C.
• West Virginia
• Wisconsin

*Note: Card games like Solitaire Sprint aren’t available in California, Georgia, Indiana, Maine, Ohio, or West Virginia. And in West Virginia, Wheel of Fortune is also off-limits.

If FanDuel Faceoff isn’t legal for real-money play where you live, you can still use the app. You’ll just be playing the games for free instead of for cash prizes.

Can I Use a VPN to Access FanDuel From a Restricted State?

Let's say you live in a state where FanDuel Sportsbook isn’t legal yet. You might be considering the idea of using a VPN to “move” yourself to an eligible state. A lot of people have thought about trying this.

Using a VPN to access FanDuel from a restricted state is not recommended. FanDuel’s geolocation tools can detect VPN usage, and attempting to bypass location checks may violate the platform’s terms and lead to account restrictions.

That can lead to your FanDuel account getting flagged, suspended, or shut down altogether… which isn’t exactly ideal if your state ever legalizes sports betting and they decide to launch there for real. If that happened, you wouldn't be able to place bets with them.

FanDuel Retail Sportsbooks

Also, FanDuel operates more than two dozen retail sportsbooks across the U.S. These places let you bet in person (either with a staff member at the counter or at one of their betting kiosks). And most of these retail locations have giant video walls and plenty of seating for watching all the games.

You can find FanDuel’s physical sportsbooks in all of the following states:

How FanDuel Legal States Compare to Other Sportsbooks

If you’re wondering how FanDuel’s legal states compare to some of the other online sportsbooks out there, this section lays it all out for you.

FanDuel Sportsbook is currently tied for second when it comes to the number of states where it’s available. DraftKings is in the top spot with 26 legal states, and FanDuel is right behind them along with Fanatics and Caesars.

You can see how all of the major sports betting apps stack up in the table below.
