BetRivers Legal States – October 2026

Where Is BetRivers Casino Legal?

BetRivers’ online casino isn’t legal in as many places as the sportsbook. As of 2026, BetRivers Casino is legal in 5 U.S. states: Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

The map below shows all the places where you're allowed to use the BetRivers app to play casino games (slots, blackjack, roulette, video poker, live dealer games, etc.) for real money.

Why Are There Fewer States for BetRivers Online Casino?

Online sports betting has been legalized in close to two-thirds of the country at this point, but online casino gaming hasn’t followed the same path.

Only seven U.S. states have legalized online gambling ("iGaming") so far, and a lot of lawmakers have been slow to move on it because they’re concerned it could cut into the business of their land-based casinos.

That’s the main reason BetRivers Casino is legal in fewer states than BetRivers Sportsbook.

Where Is BetRivers Poker Legal?

BetRivers also has an online poker platform (in case you didn't know). You can play cash games, enter tournaments, and compete against other players for real money. Right now, it's only legal in four states:

• Delaware
• Michigan
• Pennsylvania
• West Virginia

But BetRivers Poker is also expected to go live in New Jersey here soon, which would make it available in all the same states as BetRivers Casino.

How to Get Started With BetRivers in Your State

If you live in one of the BetRivers legal states we listed earlier, getting set up doesn’t take all that long. Here’s what the process usually looks like:

1. Download the app or head to the BetRivers website. Most people just install the app, but the website works pretty much the same way if you'd prefer that.
2. Create your online account. You’ll just need to fill out a quick form with some basic info: Name. Email address. Home address. Date of birth. And a few other things.
3. Verify your info. BetRivers will ask for the last four digits of your SSN, and in some cases, you might need to scan your driver’s license or another form of photo ID.
4. Add some funds. Once you’re verified, you can make your first deposit. They take debit cards, online banking, PayPal, and a few other payment options. The minimum deposit is just $10.
5. Claim the sign-up bonus. Most of the time, the BetRivers sports bonus is a “second-chance bet” promotion, which refunds your first wager (in bonus bets) if it loses. Don't forget to take advantage of that. Just use the promo code "BONUSPLAY" when you get started with BetRivers and first register for an account.

States Where BetRivers Sportsbook Isn't Available Yet

Unfortunately, there are still a lot of places where you can’t use the BetRivers platform. Right now, the sportsbook isn’t legal in 35 U.S. states. So if you’re in one of them, BetRivers won't actually let you place any bets. I’ve listed all of those unavailable states below.

• Alabama
• Alaska
• Arkansas
• California
• Connecticut
• Florida
• Georgia
• Hawaii
• Idaho
• Kansas
• Kentucky
• Maine
• Massachusetts
• Minnesota
• Mississippi
• Missouri
• Montana
• Nebraska
• Nevada
• New Hampshire
• New Mexico
• North Carolina
• North Dakota
• Oklahoma
• Oregon
• Rhode Island
• South Carolina
• South Dakota
• Tennessee
• Texas
• Utah
• Vermont
• Washington
• Wisconsin
• Wyoming

If BetRivers isn’t legal where you live, that's alright. You’re not out of options.

1. If your state has legal online sports betting: You can just sign up with one of the other legal online sportsbooks that already operate there and place bets with them.
2. If your state doesn't have legal sports betting yet: Sweepstakes sportsbooks and DFS apps are probably your best bet. They’re each a bit different from a regular online sportsbook, but you can still make sports picks and play for a shot at winning real money.

Can I Use a VPN to Access BetRivers' App From a Restricted State?

If BetRivers isn’t legal where you live, you might think about using a VPN to make it look like you’re in a state where the sports wagering app actually works... but I wouldn’t recommend it. BetRivers can usually tell right away when someone is on a VPN, and they’ll block you from placing any bets until you turn it off.

And if you somehow sneak through, you’re taking on a lot of risk. Your BetRivers account can get shut down, and you could have to forfeit any winnings if they see that you’re breaking the rules. Honestly, it ends up being more trouble than it’s worth, especially when there are other options you can use instead.

BetRivers Retail Sportsbooks

BetRivers (and its parent company, Rush Street Interactive) also runs a handful of retail sportsbooks around the country. These locations are set up pretty simply... you’ll find betting counters, kiosks, and plenty of screens to keep up with whatever games are on.

If you prefer placing bets in person or just want a place to hang out and watch sports, these locations are great for that. Here’s a look at where BetRivers has physical sportsbooks right now.

How BetRivers' Legal States Compare to Other Sportsbooks

BetRivers Sportsbook isn’t available in about half of the states where sports betting is legal. There are plenty of places (like Kansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, and a few others) where other major sportsbooks have already launched and BetRivers hasn’t.

That could always change if they decide to look into expanding into more markets, but for now, their reach is a bit limited compared to some of the bigger brands. In the table below, you’ll see how BetRivers’ legal states stack up against a few of the other popular online betting apps.

BetRivers Legal States FAQs

What states is BetRivers legal in?

Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Why isn’t BetRivers available everywhere?

BetRivers isn’t available everywhere because each state handles regulated sports betting on its own. Some states allow legal online sportsbooks and issue licenses, and others don’t. And even in states that do allow it, not every operator gets approved. That’s why BetRivers is live in some places and not in others.

How old do you have to be to use BetRivers?

You need to be 21 or older to use BetRivers. That applies to both the online sportsbook and the online casino, and it’s the rule in every state where BetRivers operates.

Who owns BetRivers?

BetRivers is owned and operated by Rush Street Interactive (RSI), a Chicago-based company that runs both the BetRivers and PlaySugarHouse brands.
