“The relegation market is suddenly dominated by Manchester City sanctions speculation. Manchester City are top of the table on 15 points, yet Polymarket still prices them at 27.5¢ to go down. That's too high. City need a huge deduction, applied this season, to drop into the bottom three. My lead trade is Man City No at 77¢ or lower.”

Prices checked Sept 30, 2026, from Polymarket's Premier League: Teams relegated (2026-27) market.
Let's start with the story dominating Premier League discourse right now. Manchester City have won all five league games, sit top on 15 points, and are still the fifth most likely club to be relegated according to Polymarket.
They're also the most-traded contract in the market, with about $59,500 through City alone. This isn't an indictment of Enzo Maresca or the playing squad, but rather traders pricing the 114-charge verdict into the market.
So what would it take for the controversial Cityzens to go down? City are currently top of the table and on track for 80+ points. Even if the squad fades badly over the winter, they're heading somewhere well north of 60 points.
Survival usually requires around 35-40 points, meaning the Premier League need to hand out a deduction in the 30-to-45-point range or condemn them to automatic relegation.
Any punishment would need to be applied before the season ends on May 30, and given City's firm denial of all charges against them, this looks like a case that could continue to drag on through the season.
The biggest points deduction in Premier League history is the 10-point penalty handed to Everton in 2024, which was later cut to six on appeal.
The scale of this case is unprecedented, so 10 points should not be treated as a ceiling, and we could well see a points deduction exceeding 30 points.
Tread this market with caution, as those baying for City's blood after years of speculation may be left wanting in the short term at least.
SCENARIO A · ABOUT 15%
| City relegated | 70% to 90% |
| What it needs | Size and timing |
SCENARIO B · ABOUT 85%
| City relegated | 1% or less |
| Why | Too many points banked |
City’s relegation chance lands at 12% to 17% on my numbers, against Polymarket’s 27.5¢ Yes price. City No at 73.9¢ has a fair value of 83¢ to 88¢. That is the largest gap I see in this market. I’d buy up to 77¢, allowing room for fees and sudden moves on sanctions news.
Tottenham Yes at 15¢ is the second trade. Spurs are bottom on two points after finishing 17th last season, yet they trade below Palace and Fulham in the relegation market.
Their squad has more quality than their results suggest, but my relegation range is 19% to 24%. Keep the position small and buy at 16¢ or less. At 17¢, the edge falls below three points at the low end of that range.
The market rules include a club losing its Premier League place through its final standing or another official league decision. The timing and form of any City sanction still matter. Read the full resolution rules before buying either side; do not assume this contract covers only a bottom-three finish.
Coventry City, 65¢ (-186): Four opening defeats without a goal put them in trouble before their win at Nottingham Forest. The price already reflects substantial relegation risk. No bet.
Hull City, 51¢ (-104): Eight points from their first five games make this coin-flip relegation price look high. I lean Hull No at 50¢, but the gap is too small for an official pick.
Ipswich Town, 41¢ (+144): Six points from five games offer a better start than Coventry’s, while heavy defeats show the step up in quality. Fair price; no bet.
Tottenham, 15¢ (+567): Bottom after five games and the value Yes position discussed above.
Crystal Palace, 28¢ (+257): A slow start and Europa League workload justify concern. The price already accounts for much of it.
Fulham, 26¢ (+285): Winless, but their goal difference is less alarming than their league position. Pass.
Manchester City, 27.5¢ (+264): Their relegation price is driven by the sanctions process. City No is the lead trade.
Sunderland, 16¢ (+525), and Bournemouth, 9¢ (+1011): Both belong on the watchlist, but neither offers a clear edge at these prices.
City’s October 2 appeal deadline and the eventual sanctions decision are the biggest market catalysts. After the international break, Manchester United vs Tottenham on October 10, Palace vs Forest and Hull vs Everton on October 11, and Coventry vs Newcastle on October 12 could move several relegation prices. January recruitment will matter most for clubs still short of Premier League depth.
