A quick guide to NBA spreads, totals, moneylines, props and futures before opening a matchup or market.

Point SpreadA handicap that levels a matchup. The favorite has a minus spread and the underdog has a plus spread.

TotalAn over/under on the combined points scored by both teams.

MoneylineA bet on the outright winner. Favorites have minus odds, while underdogs have plus odds.

Vig / JuiceThe sportsbook's built-in margin. A standard -110 price means risking $110 to win $100.

PushWhen the result lands exactly on a whole-number spread or total. The stake is normally returned.

Props & FuturesProps cover player or game events. Futures settle later, such as NBA championship, MVP and Rookie of the Year markets.

A total is an over/under on combined points. Sportsbooks can adjust the price, such as -115 or -105, before moving the number.

A moneyline is a bet on the outright winner, without a point handicap. Larger favorites have higher minus prices, while underdogs return more for a winning bet.
