American Conference Championship Futures: Who Will Win the AAC?

The American Athletic Conference is poised to have one of the more competitive championship races in the Group of Six in college football this season. Futures markets have identified Navy and UTSA as two of the leading contenders, but the gap between the favorites and the rest of the conference is relatively small. Memphis, East Carolina, South Florida, Tulane, and Army all have realistic paths to the American Conference Championship Game, creating a futures market with several legitimate options rather than one overwhelming favorite.
Navy and UTSA are among the teams receiving the most attention in the AAC championship futures market over at Polymarket. Both programs combine experienced coaching staffs with rosters capable of competing immediately, although they offer very different styles. Navy relies heavily on execution, physicality, and its distinctive rushing attack, while UTSA has developed into one of the conference's most consistent programs under head coach Jeff Traylor.
UTSA has become a regular factor in the American Conference championship discussion, and the Roadrunners should once again have the talent to remain near the top of the standings in 2026.
Traylor has established a strong foundation in San Antonio, and UTSA's ability to compete physically on both sides of the ball makes it particularly dangerous in conference play. The Roadrunners also have the benefit of playing several important games at the Alamodome, where they have traditionally been difficult to beat.
One of the biggest questions will be whether UTSA can consistently produce enough offense against the conference's better defenses. If the Roadrunners can avoid costly losses and remain healthy through the middle of the schedule, they should have an excellent chance of reaching the AAC Championship Game.
Navy may have the strongest overall AAC championship case early in the season. Several preseason publications have projected the Midshipmen to finish first in the conference, and Navy also finished at the top of an unofficial preseason media poll conducted by writers covering the league.
The Midshipmen return significant experience from a successful 2025 season, giving them an important advantage in a conference where several contenders experienced substantial roster turnover. Quarterback Braxton Woodson provides Navy with an experienced rushing threat, while a veteran offensive line should help the Midshipmen continue controlling games with their option-based attack.
Navy's schedule includes important conference matchups against UTSA and Memphis. Success in those games could ultimately determine whether the Midshipmen earn a place in the championship game.
The American Conference has considerable depth behind its two leading contenders. East Carolina is an especially interesting challenger and has received meaningful support in the futures market entering the season. Memphis remains a perennial threat because of its offensive potential, while South Florida has enough talent to make a serious run if it develops greater consistency.
Defending conference champion Tulane cannot be ignored either. The Green Wave underwent significant roster changes during the offseason but added enough transfer talent to remain competitive. Army is another dangerous opponent because its disciplined rushing offense can create difficult matchups throughout conference play.
With so many capable teams, a single upset could dramatically alter the championship race.
Navy is my pick to win the 2026 American Athletic Conference championship. The Midshipmen combine experience, continuity, and a difficult-to-prepare-for offensive system with one of the conference's stronger offensive lines.
UTSA should remain firmly in the championship race and could emerge as Navy's biggest obstacle. However, Navy's returning experience gives the Midshipmen a slight advantage in what should be a closely contested AAC season.
