The SEC is one of the strongest conferences in college football each year, and this season looks like no exception. An SEC championship is all but a guaranteed path into the College Football Playoff. But which team will rise above the rest to win the SEC? Here, we break down the futures pricing for the SEC championship and make our prediction to get the job done this year.
The favorite to win the SEC championship at Polymarket is the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia has made it to the SEC title game in five straight years and has won it in back-to-back seasons. They will be expected to get there again this season, though there are no guarantees in college football.
Georgia's defense will be expected to play at an elite level again this year. The question for them is whether or not Georgia can get enough out of its offense to become a legitimate title contender. Gunner Stockton is back at quarterback this season and he will try to lead them there after completing just under 70% of his passes a season ago.
The Texas Longhorns have fit in well since joining the SEC a couple of seasons ago. The Longhorns have made an SEC title game already and look poised to contend for one of those spots again in 2026. They are led by Arch Manning, who is in the early discussions in the Heisman Trophy futures market, as he will look to get Texas to the top of the SEC mountain for the first time.
Texas' schedule is set to be an absolute gauntlet this season. They are matched up with four of the preseason's top 10 teams, which will make it hard for them to get enough wins to finish in the top two in the standings by the end of the regular season. But Texas certainly has the talent to overcome that difficult schedule and win this conference.
LSU will be one of the most interesting teams to watch in college football this year. Lane Kiffin left SEC rivals Ole Miss at the end of last season and has become the new head coach of the Tigers. And the expectations for the Tigers in year one under Kiffin are already sky-high, as they are one of the favorites to win the SEC.
The Tigers are led at quarterback by Arizona State transfer Sam Leavitt, who previously helped the Sun Devils make the College Football Playoff as a surprise entrant. Leavitt is set to deal with a huge step up in level of competition this year, and his ability to handle that could determine how the Tigers' season goes.
Those making college football predictions have some other teams worth monitoring in the SEC futures markets. Ole Miss may have lost Lane Kiffin, but they still have Heisman hopeful Trinidad Chambliss to lead them at the quarterback position. The Rebels will put up points in bunches, and will try to improve on defense in big spots to win a league title.
Alabama, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M are also firmly in contention to win the SEC championship. These teams have their work cut out for them if they want to move ahead of the favorites listed above. But they have more than enough talent to accomplish that if they can handle their business.
At this stage, we'll take Texas to win the SEC championship. They will have to prove themselves against Georgia and the other elite teams in this conference. But the Longhorns have looked very good over the last couple of years since joining this conference and they have a better chance of winning the SEC than their current market price suggests.
