Best Iowa Sports Betting Apps

Legalized sports betting is alive and well in the state of Iowa. The Hawkeye State actually went live on August 15, 2019 and has been thriving ever since. Even with the mild inconvenience of having to sign up in person to use one of the sportsbook apps on a mobile device, Iowans and residents of nearby states and cities have been getting their bets in at an incredible rate.

The law that forces interested bettors to sign up in person only runs through the start of 2021, so it won’t be there forever, but making a trip out to the casino is a small price to pay for being able to make bets from the comfort of home. Once users are signed up, they can either use the apps for mobile betting or the websites for betting from a computer.

Iowa is not as far along as other states like New Jersey or Pennsylvania, but a lot of operators are staking a claim in the state because of its extremely fair and reasonable tax law. The licensing fee is low at $45,000 and the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission has encouraged a lot of competition with a friendly tax rate. Unfortunately, bets are not allowed on in-state college athletics, but, again, that is a small price for Iowans and border townies to pay.

There are a handful of operators in Iowa. The four most notable are DraftKings, PointsBet, William Hill, and FanDuel. Of the four, FanDuel is the only one not offering mobile betting as of yet, but that will come in Q1 or Q2 of 2020 because FanDuel already has retail sportsbook operations at the Diamond Jo Casinos in Northwood and Dubuque. Hard Rock is also live with a mobile app through Hard Rock Sioux City.

There are other, smaller entities looking for a piece of the market share, including Betfred, which just started at Grand Falls Casino with a retail sportsbook and mobile betting to come online in February 2020. There are also retail sportsbooks for Q Casino and Elite Sportsbooks through a partnership with Bet.Works. More operators will be coming online in 2020, including Penn National sometime this year through the Ameristar Casino in Council Bluffs.

Once again, you need to sign up in person to be able to use the mobile and online betting features for each specific operators. That is a one-time only procedure.

Once you sign up, you can download the apps from the Apple Store if you are an iOS user. For Android users, the Google Play Store still has some restrictions on gambling apps, so you will need to go to the operator’s website and follow the simple instructions.

While you have quite a few choices in Iowa, DraftKings and PointsBet are the best sportsbooks for mobile betting.
