For the player-prop article, that leaves Haaland as the strongest straightforward scorer angle, Cherki as the more attractive secondary City price, and Brobbey as a genuine longshot only if the market drifts to 15¢ or below.
Manchester City return to the Etihad with a perfect Premier League record through four matches and another favorable matchup on paper against Sunderland. The early market has City at roughly 76¢ to 77¢ to win, with City -1.5 around 51¢ and Over 2.5 goals at 61¢, setting the expectation for sustained pressure and plenty of attacking possession.
That game script naturally puts the focus on the player prop markets. Erling Haaland remains the headline scoring threat, while Rayan Cherki's role becomes more interesting with Phil Foden suspended. Sunderland's Brian Brobbey also offers a very different angle from the home favorites, particularly if his anytime goalscorer price drifts far enough before kickoff.

Haaland is the obvious name, but the underlying numbers are strong enough that this is more than a reputation bet.
Through four Premier League starts he has four goals from 3.9 npxG, with 14 shots and eight on target. His 0.90 npxG per 90 ranks in the 93rd percentile among Premier League centre-forwards, while 57% of his attempts have tested the goalkeeper. He is also City's first-choice penalty taker and has started all four league games.
Against a Sunderland defense that has allowed 5.92 xGA through four matches, there is a high probability he find the net. Sunderland have not been poor defensively, but this is comfortably their most difficult individual matchup of the season. City themselves are averaging 1.83 xG per game and have conceded only two league goals.
We regress his current 0.90 npxG/90 toward his longer-term scoring profile rather than assuming four games are fully representative. Even after doing that, the matchup produces an ATS scoring probability of 59%.
That gives us a simple entry rule: buy YES at 56¢ or lower and pass above 56¢.

Cherki offers the more interesting secondary City prop.
He has already produced two goals and two assists in 229 Premier League minutes, with 1.1 npxG, 0.9 xA and seven shots. His attacking output works out to 0.78 expected goal involvements per 90, placing him among the league's most productive attacking midfielders through the opening month.
Phil Foden's absence could prove pivotal. Foden is suspended following his red card against Manchester United, while Jeremy Doku remains a doubt with a calf problem. That should concentrate more of City's central attacking play around Cherki, Haaland and Antoine Semenyo.
Cherki also played only 45 minutes against Norwich in midweek, so workload should not be a major concern. His current scoring rate of two goals in 229 minutes is too hot to project forward unchanged, particularly when last season's underlying profile was closer to 0.25 npxG per 90. The current role is more attacking, though, and 1.1 npxG from his first four appearances indicates that the improvement is not purely finishing variance.
Our regression lands at a 30% anytime scoring probability. That makes 27¢ the maximum buy price if we want to preserve our three-point value threshold.

Brobbey is not remotely as likely to score as Haaland, but that does not make him an automatic avoid. The Sunderland striker remains without a league goal despite generating 1.0 npxG in 339 minutes. He has taken six shots and has yet to put one on target, which is the obvious warning sign, but his underlying scoring contribution is stronger than the zero in the goals column suggests.
Sunderland themselves have created 6.31 xG through four league games, including more than 2.1 xG against both Brentford and Arsenal. Their 2.15 xG (1.23 NPxG) in the Arsenal defeat is particularly relevant because it shows they can still manufacture high-quality opportunities while spending long periods without the ball.
City are a much tougher scoring environment. They have allowed just 0.90 xGA per match, so we heavily discount Brobbey's baseline rather than betting blindly on positive regression.
That leaves an 18% ATS scoring probability, which only becomes actionable at 15¢ or lower. At anything approaching 20¢, there is no meaningful edge.
Antoine Semenyo is the obvious alternative City scorer, especially with Foden unavailable, but his 2026/27 shooting profile is surprisingly quiet. He has generated only 0.4 npxG through four Premier League games, despite coming off a 17-goal season in which his shot selection and finishing were excellent.
That makes him a player where reputation could push the price below fair value from the bettor's perspective. I would want 24¢ or lower before becoming interested in Semenyo anytime, rather than paying a premium simply because City are 77% favorites. Jeremy Doku is an avoid until the lineup is confirmed. He has missed City's opening league games with a calf injury and remains a doubt for Sunday.
The wider markets reinforce the expected game script. Our model is currently projecting City -1.5 at 51¢ on Polymarket as the best bet for Sunday's game.
